Mozart keeps escaping.
Mozart is one of my milksnakes, he's pretty small.
After the first day that I got him, he managed to escape his exo terra tank. I closed up any holes he might have gotten out of but he kept finding ways to get out so I put him into a 10 gallon with a mesh topand he squeezed through the mesh. Then I put him into what I think is called an atasuki terrarium. The tank is so well closed up that I thought he wouldn't be capable of escaping but he found a way. I had even closed off any small holes I found. I'm not sure what to keep him in anymore? I was very lucky today that I found him. My cat was clawing at my closet door and I right away knew he had escaped as I just put him in the atasuki tank yesterday. I found him in my bag of substrate
But would anyone have any suggestions? I thought about putting him in a bin but he's able to squeeze through the smallest of holes and I don't have a small enough drill to make proper sized holes. I have a kritterkeeper but I'm sure it's too small..

Re: Mozart keeps escaping.
Is he using the furniture to boost himself? Is there no lock on the mesh to hold it in plAce or is he pushing the mesh itself?

Re: Mozart keeps escaping.
I don't think he is. In the mesh enclosure he squeezed himself through, it's metal mesh and there's about half a centimeter gap for him to get through. I also looked at the tank he was in now and realised he squeezed through the glass doors. He just gets himself up on his own somehow.
EDIT: Alright I found a bin with a smooth cover and poked some holes with a pen. If he gets out of this, I give up.

First escape: shame on him.
Second and all subsequent escapes: shame on you.

Re: Mozart keeps escaping.
Until you can figure out how to secure a tank properly you should put him in a tub. Tiny air holes and a locking lid. If he gets out of that I have no clue what to tell you.

Re: Mozart keeps escaping.
you dont need a drill for plastic totes though hun.i just put my baby bella into a plastic tote (dont own a drill) i used a knife.
get a knife witha very small sharp pointy end work from inside out rotating it until it just puncutes the outside. use a bit of sand paper on outside to file down edges and you go a little hole no snake can get out. (i madebigger holes formy ball) but if you made alot of thos tiny little holes youd be good to go.
also withmytank i cracked one side a bit because i put to much pressure down on my first hole. duct tape baby lol than you know for sure you snake cant get out if you goof like me andmake a crack instead of hole.

Re: Mozart keeps escaping.
brian fart wish i thought of this withmy tub. you can get at any hardware store this toolthat looks like a dental tooth pick but without the curve not sure what they are called they are very skinny with pointy end in the screw driver section they comeas skinny or thick as you need and are only like 3 bucks and definetly would go through plastic tub. saves getting a drill or buying adrill bit cause this is much much cheaper.
just suggestion.
i couldnt imagine the constent worry i would feel of baby bella constently escaping you much be soo worried all the time especially with other animals around that would look at him as play toy/food

Re: Mozart keeps escaping.
Yep he's in a bin now. I just would have never expected him to find ways out. With the wire mesh, I never thought he could squeeze through that, to be safe I even hot glued a plastic mesh over the wire mesh. He actually didn't escape that second time but I found him between the wire mesh and the screen mesh.
Third time I never checked the gap between the sliding doors. I covered every other hole that was big enough for him to get through, just never checked the door. All my snakes have been secure in their tanks and never escaped, I think he just likes going on adventures. I should be making more sure that tanks are secure for small snakes though next time I know that, it's just that you don't expect them to get through such small spaces.
And sherriwat, thanks for the suggestion I'll do that next time. The bins I have are really tough and I wouldn't have been able to make a hole with a knife.

Re: Mozart keeps escaping.
The tub idea is what I would personally recommend. Small air holes, no way of getting out with a secure lid.
