Re: Snakes like saunas
Does anyone else give their snakes saunas? Tupperware with moist moss over the heat source.

Re: Snakes like saunas
All my snakes have a hide with moss in but in the middle of the viv rather than the hot side

Re: Snakes like saunas
lankyrob...do you find that the frequent it? I was talking with someone about my sand boas, and they suggested the hot side, and now Mooglie won't leave it *lol* she loves it in there. I open it and check on her, because i'm a bad snake keeper and an overprotective mama...and she peers up at me, and just stays in there *lol*
I've had moist moss in tanks before, but no one cared. But for the species that are supposed to like it dryer, these two, the sand boas and hognoses...love it!
I tried the same with my carpet python and she acted like i was crazy *rolls eyes*
I need bigger containers for my other critters so i haven't tried it with the balls, or the other boas yet.
What i've been trying to do is have a hot spot, a sauna spot, a medium hide, and a cold hide, with the water dish. Everyone seems to like different spot!

Re: Snakes like saunas
Some of them never seem to leave the moist/humid hide, i just make sure to keep it sprayed regularly and mix the moss up so that it doesnt die off.

Re: Snakes like saunas
sometimes i feel like i should have this huge eleborate set up with a moist spot on the hot, cool, and medium places, and a dry spot, and some light and a uth, and just all these options to hide or climb, etc. I would love that actually. I just want to make sure to give them each an option, since they all have their own preferences.
Right now they've been switching it all up because i moved them all upstairs and it's warmer...some who used to not come out (even though they weren't hiding on the warm side) come out and skim all around the tank or sit sprawled out. I guess every little degree matters!

Re: Snakes like saunas
probably moist aspin, or even paper towels, though those squash down...the plus to moss is it stays fluffy and they like to feel like they're surrounded and enclosed in the tub.
For moist hides i think lankyrob uses wood...right? soak the wooden hide and then it stays moist for a while.
Hey may have other things/methods....rob? : )

Re: Snakes like saunas
Thanks! I wanted to add a bigger water bowl to my kings enclosure because he is so big but I think I'll give the "sauna" a try

Re: Snakes like saunas
I dont use anything special for humid hides, some of them have normal reptile hides stuffed with moss, some just have anything that can be used for a hide stuffed with moss - i dont think the snakes mind
