A visitor to the Tortoise Pen

Put the tortoises in the outside pen this morning.
New camera lens came (Opteka 500mm) so figured I'd go out and take some test shots to practice with it.

Went to the pen and immediately saw this 1.5ft garter snake sitting in the middle of the pen on a pile of leaves.

It's a bit blurry, taken with the new 500mm zoom from about 6ft. Full manual and first time using it.

Same snake, 75-300mm Tamron lens @ 75mm. Also around 6ft away

Nice looking garter! I'm glad he stayed there long enough for you to get some pictures

Re: A visitor to the Tortoise Pen

yea, when I had gone out there the sulcatta was sitting right next to him and started walking over to me. Figured the snake would run off after having the tip of his tail stepped on but he was still sitting there after I went in to get the other lens to get a full body shot.

If he's still in there later, I'll move him to the woods behind the house. The walls of the pen are 10" and due to how the ground is, there's very few gaps under the sides. He can climb over if he really tried, but he might not know he can.
