amel corn snake

just purchased my new amel corn snake on 4-7-12. i purchased it at a reptile show in horsham pa. It was kinda an impulse buy but not really as i already had a 20gal cage and lights. that was used for my beardies. while i was at the show i also purchased sum aspen snake bedding. the breeder i got him from said he was about 6 weeks and kept at a 85-95 heat range.

i have done a lot of research since i got him. at first i was scared to buy one, so after speaking with sum breeders/sellers/owners a corn snake was a good beginner snake to own.

i have not fed him yet. last he ate was the monday before i purchased him which was on a saturday 4/7/12 so this past Monday 4/9/12 he should have ate but being in a new environment i wanted to wait another week to feed it. i need to get a uth and make a rheostat that i got a diy off this site and sum frozen pinkies.

i keep it around 75 in my apartment. so i dont really need heat right away since i just want him to get use to his home. he does slither around the tank. i have handled him with a gentle pick up from the middle of him or from the side so i dont startle it. i am monitoring its temps by exo-terra digi temp gauge that i keep the probe on the ground/top of substrate. i have a flood light box as its hide for now seems to be under it so i need to get the uth today.

well enough of me typing. her goes some pics of it and its home.

Re: amel corn snake

75 is a little low for me, he needs a hot end of 86, 75 is fine for the cool end. Snakes also need to have a hide at botht the warm and cool end of the tank so that they can both hide and thermoregulate.

Nice looking snakey tho
