anyone fence in a yard?

just got a quote for 3200.00 for a fence and install. just wondering if any one did one their selves? or know of a cheaper way to get on.

its a 6' tall privacy fence made of wood posts... need a fence in yard for my dogs... and my tortoise. lol..

let me know what you guys have experiance with.

I fenced in my yard a few years ago. I paid some friends who are in construction, so they're good at diggin' holes. I paid them $1,000 took them 3 days I think, including dry time. If I remember correctly. It was about the same. I'm only on 1/4 acre now.

Really depends on the size of the "yard". Our garden is 30ftx60ft and we were quoted over £2000 for fencing it in completely.

I would do it myself.. Just go to your local rental store and rent a hole digger. Save yourself cash and back pain.

it is 116' of fence... sorry for people out side of U.S i dont know metric conversions at all...

i wonder how much they chargeing for labor.

Ask them.. I normally see that about 1/2 the price is labor on things like this. Depending on the cost of the fence style you picked out I would guess that $2000 of that is labor. I can get 130' of 6'tall stockade fencing for $600 add in center posts and its about $900- Rent a hold digger for $200. I was just pricing out this stuff to do my mother in laws yard..

i do that type of work myself mate

just buy the fence panels.....

meausure their length,then put your fence posts in accordingly

if a panel is 6ft long.....

you would put your " 6 inch wide " fence posts,in the ground every 5ft 9inches

that would give you 3 inches of fence post,to attatch each fence panel on to mate

you judge the depth of the post holes,depending on the type of ground you have

soft ground you go deeper and wider

after you dig the holes,put the posts in,back fill with a stiff cement and pebbles/stones mixture

wait till the cement/concerete to set,then attatch your fence panels

if i can do it anyone can,as DIY is not my strong point

precisely placing the fence posts is the hardest part,get that correct and the rest is easy mate

Gungirl, and Shaunyboy... (and everyone else) thanks so much for those posts.. i think i am just going to invite some buddies over, grab some drinks, and BBQ, and do it our selves... my brother use to be in construction and build houses, so i know he will know what he is doing, but he works 15 hrs a day so its hard to get ahold of him...

I have seen people use a string line over a long distance and have almost a foot slope in the end product.

depending on your soil conditions, I can say this, manual (handheld) augers can be a bear in rocky dirt.

I will never do it again, we use a tractor with an auger.

its mid-soft soil... not rocky.. but not really soft.. i get good plants/flowers/grass growth.... if that helps.
