It could be a Fire Stripe but there are degrees of color in them.

The head resembles a corn more than a rat to me but it looks funny. Only rats I have experience with are trans pecos and Texas rats. I changed my answer I don't think its a corn...

If he found it in the wild it's not a bloodred, I agree with Kevin, it's an Everglades rat.
