Wow close call

So today I almost killed my bearded dragon. At night the only heat source she has is a heating pad, and something went wrong with that, the night temp is usually 74 but it went down to 64. I picked her up today and bam she was ice ice cold. So I grabbed her and went outside its really hot here. I put her in the sun on me without a shirt so she can get the heat from the sun and my body heat, she warmed up and is back to normal eating lots lots again. So I wanted to ask you guys, I want to make sure that this never ever happens again. I will go to petsmart right now I just want to know, a ceramic heating bulb with no light at all: should I go 75 watt? She's inn a 40'gallon tank. And the basking bulb is 150 watt but I'm lowering it to 75 watt on the cool side and 75 ceramic heater on the cool side?! Any tips would be appreciated thanks <3 please no critizing I think my heating pad broke I already feel so bad

Re: Wow close call

She will be okay, I don't think you need to worry. 65 for one night is nothing.

Re: Wow close call

64 is not an issue, night time temps can drop as low as the 60's its when they get below 60 that it becomes an issue. She would have been fine left in her enclosure to move to her basking spot to heat up, as long as you have the correct basking temps.

Re: Wow close call

first off excuse my language but ur friend is a b!@&* and i dont know what temp beardies need to be at but 75watts should be ok if you buy another heat pad get a zoo med and a thermostat a digital one also get a deep dome double lamp set those generate heat really well a little to well

Re: Wow close call

one time before i got wise and put a lock on Cecils enclosure... my son slid the door latch open on his cage when we were getting ready to leave... when i got home from work Cec was gone... we looked everwhere... we thought he was gone... we moved all the furniture and everything... i was crying and sobbing and decided to go look outside... maybe he slipped past us somehow out the screen door... i grabbed my boots...i wear cowboy boots a lot because i ride a lot... and my left boot felt very heavy... I looked inside and there was Cec...sleeping in my boot... of all places... i pulled him out , sobbing and all... and he was ice cold... i thought for sure he was dead cuz he didnt respond at all... hubby told me to put him under his basking light.. so we did and withing an hour he was running around as normal... what a scare it was though.. I realized then that if anything ever happened to him... id be VERY upset... my baby...aww...thinking about the way i felt at that moment makes me tear up now... we also came home recently to find him sitting on the back of our couch chilling in the sunshine...little turd!
