Just put money down on a BRB!

Just 5 months after my first snake purchase.. I caved and decided to pull the trigger on a second snake. Sadly, it'll have to warm up before I can get this little beauty from David Colling at rainbowsrus, so it may be a few months until we can ship her safely. to rub it in, it was -4 degrees outside mid day when i went for a run, not good snake weather!

Here's the one pic of her, shes from two high-orange adults, who look absolutely gorgeous (Daisy and Fred if you look at his breeders on his site)

Only one pic right now from a little bit ago, apparently shes already coloring up and he's gonna grab another picture when he gets the time. I don't know how I'm going to handle the wait other than getting a cage setup and staring at it every day

How do you all deal with the wait?!

Congrats!!!!

Do you have an estimate of when she'll arrive??

While you wait you can make sure she has the perfect set up with spot on temps and humidity and hides and all that jazz. She'll have a great home with you

Already working on it! Luckily I have a billion hygrometers from a cigar hobby (don't worry, they aren't used yet, so they went nowhere near the cedar humidors which are nowhere near where my snake lives!) and my black milksnake likes it humid already, so i've figured out how to do that well enough

as for an estimate, the problem is that he lives in California, and I'm in New Hampshire, so estimating where they drop the box off for ground delivery could be tricky, I've had packages go through different places before on my way from the same people. I would imagine around April or so if we don't have a heat wave in march considering how warm this winters been most of the time. The problem (im sure you all know) is it has to be 40 at night, and while its been around 40 on some days here, it's always stupid cold here at night no matter how warm it is out! it's in the negatives right now and it was 45 out yesterday.

Yup. It's like anything though, I tried to convince myself otherwise by asking my girlfriend "hey should we get another snake?" and instead of saying "no we just got one" she said "Yeah, why not?"

Re: Just put money down on a BRB!

Well, our only other pet is (ironically) a pet rat, we love the crap out of it, but we got it before I convinced my landlord to let us get a snake, she originally said no, but we could get something like a gerbil, hampster, etc. (so we got a rat) then I asked her again a few months later and she said I could get a nonvenomous snake (i originally was looking at a hognose, and didnt know they were "technically venomous" so when my landlord asked, i said "hognose, they're really small and wouldn't be a problem at all" and im sure she looked it up and saw "Rear-fanged venomous snake" and was like OH HELL NAH

no kids, no dogs or cats, so its not like we have a ton to take care of

Re: Just put money down on a BRB!

Gives me time to think of a name at least. I'm horrible at that.

I used to name mine Irish Gaelic names since there's no native snakes in Ireland. I thought it was funny heehee

Now I just wait and watch their personalities and temperaments and name them accordingly. I still have 3 in my collection that have no names, one of which I've had for almost 6 months now. Nothing about her really stands out to me, which is making it even harder.

I'm the only one here that really names them. If I call one by name, the boyfriend always asks "which one is that?" So in conversation with him, they're referred to "your burm and my burm, your dumeril, my dumeril, your rainbow, the red tail, etc". I only have a couple that he knows the actual names to lol

Yeah, i'll probably wait and do that. All of our pets have always been named after rulers/dictators, oddly even before we met each other.. So I'm a little limited w/ the female rulers hmm

You could probably encompass some famous female warriors, or even the ruler's women/wives. That would be cool, especially if you breed

I'm leaning towards Cixi (also spelled Tz'u-Hsi), (chinese empress with a sort of cool back story), plus its pronouned exactly the same as "sushi" sounds. I wont name her until i see her and know the personality obviously, but still.

I'll probably make a list and keep looking at the names and see which ones i enjoy over time rather than just once, i'm horrible in the sense that i can never settle on a name :P

She looks wonderful, you must be so excited I like Cixi as a name btw. Very unique. I like the spot in the first half of her that looks like a mickey mouse head!
