Me and Kaa
Hello Every body!
My name is Dove and I just brought home my new snake, Kaa. He is a 3 or 4 year old Ball Python. I am a brand spakin' new snake owner and found this site during my intensive research. I think I have the bare basics down but I sure do appreciate any helpful advice. I am good friends with Kaa's previous owners so I will always have their input and help. But I figure 8,000,000 heads are better than one or three in snake care, right? =)
One question I do have right off the bat is... Since I don't have a heat lamp right now and won't for a couple more days, can I put a heating pad under his hide box (under the cage)? I have my room heat turned up but I want to make sure Kaa is truly comfy. Or should I put a heating pad in a place where there are no obstacles around?
I sure do appreciate your help! Thank you!

Re: Me and Kaa
Welcome!
A heat mat is certainly a fine choice. Whatever heat source you choose (heat mat or lamp), make sure you have it hooked up to a thermostat. A thermostat will help control how hot your source gets. Unregulated heat mats can get up to 130F and burn your snake! Having the heat mat under one of his hides on one extreme of her enclosure is exactly where you should have it
Feel free to ask more questions!
Also please post photos of Kaa when you get the chance!

Re: Me and Kaa
A heat mat under his hide is a great thing to do, but please offer him a hide on the cool side too so that he can feel secure while cooling off.

Re: Me and Kaa
Hi Dove, I'm pretty much in the same position as you. Found this site after much surfing and have already received some great responses over questions/concerns here! I've been lucky in that my BP settled in well and was eating his first meal within 6 days with little effort on my part. I've been researching almost 6 hours a day online and putting everything I can into providing my lil guy with the best of anything I can get. Hope you receive the same results with yours!

Re: Me and Kaa
Gosh! Thank you so much everyone! It sure is nice to have such a nice welcome as a newbie! ^_^ Kaa is my beautiful boy! Even my room mate (who was once super scared of snakes) is now a big fan! Kaa seems to like her too so all is well!
I have put the heating pad half in half out of his hide. I will put another hide in for him on a cooler side. Thank you for the advice!!!

I'm not sure how to upload pictures at the moment. I'm trying to do it now. We'll see if it takes.
The pictures were before I put his hide in. I had just gotten him home. I will post more pictures when I get the chance.
