Bad luck....
So, several weeks ago my rtb managed to escape after I left for my dad's. Unfortunately, the cats found her before my mother did. The bright side is, she was not killed although she was scratched up. None of them were life-threatening. I washed her wounds and applied neosporin (without pain-killers), upped her humidity and kept handling to a minimum, and waited a couple of weeks before feeding her. Her more "major" wounds are almost healed up, none of them were bad enough to get an infection. She is perfectly fine, no signs of stress. After this incident, I realized it would be better to have her with me, where I could keep up the necessary precautions to keep her safe. I'm glad she wasn't more harmed, and I know I'll get crap for stupidity, but trust me I berated myself 1,000 times worse so I don't need any more. I've learned my lesson.

Re: Bad luck....
Dont Feel To Bad, I have snake Proofed my apartment, because no matter how many times i snake proof the cages, I have an escapee about once every two months, my Retic Ama, Is extremely Strong, And the lid on her cage has been replaced four times now, because she is able to push the pins out and slide the top off. first escape, i woke up in bed and she was right next to me, Second Time i found her on top of my entertainment center, I changed the type of pins im using to a thin bolt and nut combo, she hasnt gotten out yet, but i think its only a matter of time

Re: Bad luck....
Nah, no need to beat yourself up. It's a sad reality that it happened that way, but it's in the past now. All you can do now is focus on the future... on how to help her heal, and how to prevent another escape.
Best of luck to you both

Re: Bad luck....
Lesson learned Bigsnakegirl. I honestly think people here would only give you a hard time if we were reading posts from you saying. "Oops she's escaped again that's. 3 times this month". Occasionally it'll happen to some of us. Glad she's ok (and your mom didn't find her lol)

Happy to hear she is doing well. Don't beat yourself up. Your not the only one who has ever had a snake escape. Best of luck! She will be 100% better before you know it.

Re: Bad luck....
I'm glad she's alright.
I think just about anybody who's had snakes for a period of time has had an escape...

Re: Bad luck....
Accidents happen, the only thing that matters is that your boa is ok. I've had escapes too, its something that I think happens to just about everyone that keeps snakes at one point or another. No need to beat yourself up, just use the whole situation as a learning experience.

Re: Bad luck....
The difference is, you learned from your mistake, most people just ignore them and keep doing as they were...
glad he/she is okay!!

I'm not beating up on the OP over this but I have kept snakes for roughly 12 years without an escape and I don't see it happening any time soon. It's not something anyone should really run into as it's 100% preventable.

I agree, but thats why I said "just about everybody". Escapes are preventable, but we are all human and sometimes mistakes are made. I wish I could say I've never had an escape but unfortunately I had a bone head day and had one escape. I found them safe and sound and haven't had one since. I learned from it so it won't happen again. I think there are a lot more serious keepers of reptile keepers that have escape stories than ones that don't. Thats why I said what I said in my previous post.
