Re: A great video with a great message
It's a good message. A liiiittle bit boring to watch, but I agree. It's easy to be arrogant and judgemental on the net..or to have it be read that way when people give info, since it's just text.
Not on this site, but i know on another forum i tried to get into, i just got so frustrated and annoyed with people who ask questions, and then werent' open to learning...or others who responded rude to questions for no reason. I hardly check there anymore. I come on here to relate to people who have the same interests, and to enjoy myself and relax. Maybe see some cute snakey pics.
Maybe that's part of the problem too. Snake husbandry is kind of more private, i feel, than say dogs or cats or anything. It's not like you walk your snakes, and there's a snake park (dog park like) or something.
WHich is the point, but also there's just too many years of stigma and people are afraid of them just because they feel they should be.
I really don't think we'll ever get to the point where people won't give "weird" looks to those of us who say we keep snakes. I actually say i have snakes, all the time at work and watch people's faces and they are always shocked. I usually say something that implies it's not a big deal, they shouldn't be shocked, and how wonderful and rewarding i think the snakes are to take care of.
Most of them probably walk off thinking i'm a weirdo, but i do get that "hmm" kind of look from some of them, like they hadn't thought of it that way before.
ANyway, rambling. It's kind of our responsibility to encourage those who are interested, and to educate those who don't know...but it's a huge task. I can see where people get frustrated and rude, but, all we can do is remind each other to be patient.
