Thermostat question

I have a dimming thermostat with a red light I set this to 90f in the basking spot, the thing is according to my thermometer which records highest/lowest temps I'm getting a 20 degree swing. Highest recorded 102f lowest 82f. Iv,e changed the thermostat, but the same things happening.
Thoughts anyone ?

where is the probe positioned mate ?

and is it secured in place ?

The thermostat is in the back corner and the thermometer is in the foreground, originally we had the viv on top of the viv for the beardie and I thought it was the heat from below that was messing with it, but I moved it two days ago and changed the thermostat and its still the same

i never have any bother setting tanks up with ceamic bulbs but.....

with my daylight bulbs for my diamonds,i find i spend a week or two adjusting the thermostat every other morning,until it settles at the correct temps

it could even be a case of new bulbs need time to settle in ?

as its only light emmiting bulbs that give me this problem ?

i attatch my probe on the back wall directly below the heat source,if the tank has a basking shelf below the bulb,i put the probe just above the shelf (half an inch to an inch)

if theres no shelf i put the probe 2 thirds below between the heat source and the floor,on the back wall

all my heat sources are fitted to the back righ corner of my tanks

i use one of those little half circle clip[s used to secure telephons cables to the wall.they have a little panel pin nail in them,i replace the nail with a small self tapping screw

i put the clip just above the actual probe,on the probe cable.this holds everything firmly in place

the only other thing i can think of is that your THERMOMETER may be FAULTY ?

i have a lazer temperature gun to double check all my thermometers

it may also be the probes being affected by daily differences,in ambient air temperatures of the room they are in,moving the probe closer to the heat source usually remmedies this for me

it may also be the probes being affected by daily differences,in ambient air temperatures of the room they are in,moving the probe closer to the heat source usually remmedies this for me

I'm waiting on a lazer temp gun coming bud. The temp always gets high during the night so I'm thinking it's maybe the ambient temp thats messing with it, once i get the gun i'll know better an i'll keep you posted. Thanks for the advice man.

Is it possible that the higher temps were measured when the snake was laid across teh probe? this would affect the reading?

That possible too Rob, but the probe never seems to get moved, as I said earlier I thought it was because I had one viv on top of the other, there's about a 3in/75mm gap between them to allow airflow, I'll have a better idea once i get the lazer thermometer.
If shes not lying on the probe a 20 degree swing seems an awful lot.
