Restless ball pythons
Hey everyone my ball pythons are both constantly pacing the front of their cages lately i have a male and female in seperate cages but stacked ontop of oneanother they are also not as interested in food, i think its cause they are in breeding mode and possibly smell eachother? anyone elses ball pythons get restless this time of year?

Mine has been restless as of late as well. I don't know anything about breeding but I think this may have something to do with it. I am sure someone will be on shortly with better answers.

Not sure how old they are, but BP's that are 2 and under tend to be more restless and want to explore.

Mine did that as well, but now he just move from hot to cold, and a little exploring at night. So I would think that it's normal.

they are both 2010 balls my female is about 1400g and my male is about 900g they both come out and do it at the same time at night sometimes even into the day , do u think they are aware of eachother? i am pretty sure my female just became sexually mature this year...

usually when i offer a rat they will strike and constrict right away but latley they have been looking past it like its not there so i leave it overnight close to the hide and in the morning it is gone....

Your female is technically of breeding size but they usually aren't sexually mature until 2-3 years old. Your male however is sexually mature. I bet they smell each other and thats why they are restless. I currently have four BP two of which are breeding this year and my male that is above the two that are breeding is constantly at the front of his tub and anytime I open it he tries to go right to the females tub.

My BP this time last year was about 6 months old and went off food for 12 weeks due to breeding season (as far as i can tell). that is without a femal around to tempt him

I wouldn't automatically attribute restlessness to breeding season. Many times restlessness is caused by something environmental. Check out your enclosure, maybe its a temp or security thing.
I've never really experienced restlessness in breeding ball pythons. I have experienced restlessness in young ball pythons however and I think its usually due to hunger and/or security reasons(hides and/or tub size).
I'd also like to point out that a I haven't really experienced young, non-breeding ball pythons to go off feed because it is the time of year that we define as the breeding season.
All my young animals, especially the current year's hatchlings, feed right through the breeding season and if they dont feed I still don't attribute it to breeding season. Ball pythons just commonly fast for their own reasons.

I'll just second what Julian said.
Every single one of my ball pythons are currently eating. The breeding females, more voracious than the others. Even the babies are continually eating. As Julian said, ball pythons just fast.
