Wild turtle from this summer
Was browsing the forum and found this field herping section, very cool, been wanting to share these for a while.
They have built a new highway close to my house, and I see these more and more :/, sadly, they have been getting hit by cars lately, the new highway has eliminated a big swamp and the poor things are running out of spots to lay.
These are protected by law in Quebec
If you are wondering what the deal is with the picture with no turtle, look closely and see its tracks, kinda disturbing where it came from...
Also included is a pic from the frog in my parents pawn

Re: Wild turtle from this summer
I've rescued a Snapper off the road before. They are mean and cranky little guys! You have to know how to hold 'em, for sure! They will snap and hiss...you don't want those jaws clamping down on you!
Road risk is high for turtles in breeding season. Once I was driving with a friend and a snapper was trying to cross the road. We did a U-turn and within 30 seconds a car came along and crushed him to pieces. I was so sad, and angry. I don't think half the people even TRY to miss them.

Re: Wild turtle from this summer
There was a great big Texas slider in the road and before we could turn around, 5 different cars hit it. After that it was on the side of the road and another car swerved to hit it. It made me so mad It was still alive, but had a broken leg and several shell fractures. I took it to our local reptile shop and they cleaned it up and were going to repair it's shell with some kind of fiber glass repair kit and amputate it's leg, but it died over night.
