Iguana

Well I acquired this young Iguana in order to get him up to par. The previous owner said he would not eat or move. So after trying to explain that iceberg lettuce and crickets was an recipe for disaster I was able to get him for no charge. The moment I got him home he was fed a nice salad ate the whole thing, and is now basking at a proper temperature as well as having UV available. He is in a temp enclosure as of now and for several months, as the shop owner doe not want him back.

Re: Iguana

What should I name him? I've already owned an late adult male named Casper, and a younger male named Casper Jr....
I'm thinking "Floyd" after Pink Floyd.
any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Re: Iguana

Yikes, Im not sure Id name him just yet! Glad you were able to get him and give him some good nutrients, but he looks terribly malnourished. Its hard to tell from the picture but is he showing signs of MBD? I really hope you got him in time and are able to get him back to health. Such great colour!

The only sign of MBD I can see in the photo is maybe the lower jaw being set back a bit. IDK how old the iguana is, so it's hard to tell if his growth has been stunted. His spine and legs seem to be in proper position, so hopefully he doesn't have MBD and he recovers quickly with the right nutrients

That was a thought I had due to in exposure of UV and lack of calcium in his diet. I took him to a licensed herp vet who I trust. I told him it was a rescue and he showed great gratitude, he didn't charge me for the visit. He took stool and mucus samples, he also said he is in ok shape, but it can be better. He told me to leave his UV on an extra hour and a little extra calcium to his meals.

Re: Iguana

They are a handful to keep, but done properly it becomes second nature.

Re: Iguana

Glad you were able to take him. They deserve so much more than some people are willing to give. Kudos to you hope he makes a full turn around.
