Switching everyone to F/T!
Hey guys, So i have decided i am going to start feeding F/T. It is getting way to expensive to feed 11 snakes and the danger of them getting hurt is not worth it. So what is the best way to switch ball pythons to F/T?
Chris.

Try F/T first, you might not have to jump through hoops.

One of my ball pythons switched over no questions asked. Offer it and see what happens. If they refuse a few attempts, then start thinking about alternative techniques.

As Stephan stated some snakes take right to it. Others you need to go from live to fresh killed to f/t, others you just have to wait out. Don't offer anything but f/t and once they get hungry enough they will eat. With f/t Just make sure you have the prey heated to a good temp.

Especially the head - give them a nice HOT target to aim for.

You could also brain them to make them nice and smelly

Goodluck with the switch, hopefully all goes well. If not then persistance pays off 99% of the time id say.... you might just find yourself thinking "why didnt i start them on f/t"

Re: Switching everyone to F/T!
The best way to go about IMO is to just offer f/t at each feeding. My spider bp was a live feeder and I try to feed f/t because its easier, safer, cheaper, etc. It took me about ten months to get her strike feed on f/t. The best advice I can give is be patient. It can take some snakes awhile to switch over. My lesser it only took a month to switch him over. Some will be easier than others. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Re: Switching everyone to F/T!
Another thing that helped me was the positioning of the prey on the tongs/hemostats. Sometimes dangling by the tail works and other times sort of grabbing it by the spine so it's in a position you might see the prey normally in and dancing it around like a moving rodent works.

Re: Switching everyone to F/T!
if you have problems crossing over to frozen, fresh killed is the best route i've found
once they accepted fresh killed a few times, frozen thawed was taken
cheers shaun

Re: Switching everyone to F/T!
I hold the scruff of the prey when feeding f/t - makes it easier to do the zombie dance to try to entice a strike - just make sure that the tweezers are not in the strike line!
