Stink like a hog?

Is it just Our hognoses or do these things stink like a farm? they eat the same as everyone else but ooffddaaa you open that tub and the farm smell comes out.

Yes we spot clean and change water frequently and change bedding every few months. when I put them in a small cup for feeding it gets stinky in there. I wonder if its there venom/saliva?

Re: Stink like a hog?

Hoggies musk when they are stressed.... or when they feel like musking, its one of their strong self defense tools, ontop of the playing dead trick they do.. its all a ruse to make them look and smell like they are dead and rotting, and not edible.

You should smell Giant Hognose (Leioheterodon madagascariensis). They're absolutely awful. When one of those dumps it'll make your whole house wreak. Nasty, those things.

Re: Stink like a hog?

It doesn't smell like musk to me, more like "farm" and the female doesn't do anything defensive ie hissing pissing or anything. The male on the other hand is a hissy little thing, but I have never seen either of them musk like i remember garters musking when I caught them years ago.

Re: Stink like a hog?

I'm with Shaun, if I have my choice I'd rather clean up after a 6kg carpet that a 300gm hog. All but one of mine put out that odor. I don't think its musk because they are all very calm, my vote is poo.

You know how when something is going on we're like "Post pics of it so we can see!" Imagine if we could ask "post a smell of it!" so we could smell what you're talking about. LOL. But I'm kind of glad we can't do that. Sounds like it smells awful and I want nothing to do with it

Please avoid posting a smell, its a bad idea.... esp if its coming from your hoggies.

Re: Stink like a hog?

Or a how to re create the smell.

Ingredients:
hay
water
dirt
horse poo
mix it all up in a bucket and take a big whiff, It doesn't smell good but for some reason you take whiff after whiff like you almost like it....

Re: Stink like a hog?

I have to say I like the smell of a farm.. although I wouldn't want that smell in my bedroom.

I used to shovel stalls out at a friends barn and I loved it... Maybe Im a little off but.......ehhh
