Dealing with RI

Alright, so I bought a male lesser and a female spider this past August, they were caged together when I got them, and when I got them home noticed the beginning of RI.

After a little while and bumping up their heat, the RI got worse in the lesser. I ended up taking them to the vet and they are now on Amiglyde. They have about 3 more treatments each, but they are not eating still. It's been a few weeks. Suggestions on how to get them to eat?

Re: Dealing with RI

when my ball had a RI i did my best to save him here where i live there are no vets and so i had to deal with it on my own. So it was still the BEGINNING of the RI (he wasnt eating at this time and he did a bad shed) and what i did was to lower his humidity by taking out his water bowl and every few days i will put the bowl in so he can drink and out again !! i increase a little bit the temps. and then waited, after a few weeks i saw that the brown/orange thing he had under his lips was going . I tried feeding him and he took the mice after two feeding he went into shed and he shed in one piece and with the shed all the brown/orange thing came out !! Then i put back the water bowl and know he is a little bit under weight but he will gain weight again thx

Re: Dealing with RI

i've found that some snakes will not eat until they are back to full health or at least until the symptoms are nearly gone

after treatment,i always offer a food size down from what they normally take,if they have'nt eaten for a while due to illness

cheers shaun

Re: Dealing with RI

Excellent, thanks. I have another appointment to go to the vet on Monday. They may need another round of Amiglyde. Don't know yet.

Re: Dealing with RI

You could try the BHB remedy. F10, saline, Albuterol doesn't hurt, and a nebulizer, not a fogger. I do it more than I would like to on a few snakes we have such as our kenyans and a PITA (pain in the keester) hognose.

Re: Dealing with RI

I have no experience with RIs but I really hope they recover soon!

Re: Dealing with RI

Shmoges, I made a nebulizer and use 2ml F10 to 500 ml water. Give them 30 minute bursts a couple times a day every other day. It's sad, I got the F10 the thursday before PE caught fire.
