Re: Got mites? I do! HELP!
To my understanding, the mites that use snakes as a host will can only thrive on snakes. They won't go to any other animal. Correct if I'm wrong, but thats what I've always thought.

As long as you don't have pet bugs in the house. It will kill them.

Provent-A-Mite works like a charm. However, if you cannot wait, cost is an issue OR you have sort of shipping restriction and need a fix for this now:

Re: Got mites? I do! HELP!
So its day three of the of the War of the Mites. I have never fresh killed or live rodents to my snakes and all four have them!!! so I think this jurassi-mite ( the only mite treatment sold around here) is garbage. I bought it cause my is an expert on mite removal ( thanks Google! ) and many other things( again gotta love Google) . So as soon as the stores open I am going.g for nix. How fast will this work? How many here have used it? I tried to watch that YouTube video but he was kinda stupid. After 3 minutes I figured I might just Drink the mixture and put myself outs my misery. I am afraid to hurt my snakes ( obviously) especially my little one. How important is the ratio? If I mix it a little less. Nix and a little more wate is it a waste of time?

Before you kill yourself, try this; I use RID brand, home lice control spray. It is the same mixture of ingredients as Provent-a-mite and works the same. You can buy it in the pharmacy section of most department stores, like Walmart. I have used it for over 5 years now with no problems, as Provent-a-mite is not allowed to be sold in NY.

You do not have to mix anything, it comes in a spray can. Clean your enclosure and add fresh substrate. Remove the water and the snake. Spray the substrate untill damp. Let it air dry. Put wate3r and snake back into enclosure and for the next 30 days you are good to go. If you change the substrate you have to retreat the enclosure again. After I do this I have never had to retreat the enclosure , becaus eit has always worked for me. Within the 30 day period the mites in the enclosure and on the snake are gone, never to return.

Agreed, also spray any new substrate you get lightly with this stuff.
