Accurite ? Best way to take temps in long run ?

Question for the more experienced members.

Are accurites a good investment per snake that you have? Buying analog hygro's and thermometers really dont give me peace of mind, right now I'm using $10 thermometer probes, but that requires me to buy three of them (one for warm one for cool side one for hot spot)

Without modding the accurite, are they 100% safe and also 100% effective to leave inside the tubs? I don't really understand how it works. The actual grey device is put in to the tub, it measures humidity and the temperature of where you put it.. and it also comes with a seperate probe that you can use to measure the other side of the tank.

What is the best way to take temperatures in the long run, I will be breeding in the next year or two, and I'm planning on building a rack system. So for each new snake, I wanted to see what the best solution was for taking accurate temperatures. I've heard having a temp gun around also is a big help, but not a necessity.

Temp guns are awesome. 30$ for the good ones. Thermostats are fantastic too.

The difference in prices has probably got a lot to do with products marketed for the herp industry. If you can compare the stats usually Equipment for industry vs pet hobby is the same equipment for a fraction of the cost. That being said you need to check the stas on the individual equipment. Not all is created equal.

that's the one I bought as well for about $15 shipped, however I'm a bit of perfectionist and I'm noticing the limits of such a cheap model and, like with my thermostat, am considering switching to a higher end model once money is available.

I read that this one is accurate to within a couple degrees.

Re: Accurite ? Best way to take temps in long run ?

if you're about 6 inches away, yeah. The spread or whatever is relatively poor on this model. I've found that the temps seem to fluctuate a decent amount even if I'm holding as still as I can.
