I'm not getting a Snake
At the moment anyway.
It was a difficult decision, and was very, very hard to make myself not get one, but I realized that it just doesn't fit into our budget at the moment. I don't want to get a pet and then not be able to support it.
My irrational side wanted to dive in and just buy one!! Better judgement said "no, you shouldn't"
I still want one so bad. I'm so disappointed.
Thanks everyone so much for all the snake info, I will keep it and apply it some day when I get my snakey. (and I WILL get one some day)

I applaud your rational decision, not many people would do that.

Re: I'm not getting a Snake
Kudos for making the "right" decision, it usually is tue hardest one to make but your future snake will appreciate you making it.

Re: I'm not getting a Snake
I know it can be really hard to realize now is not the time. But like you said, that doesn't mean forever! I have to do that every time I go to a reptile expo lol. It's hard! Good job on making the best decision for you and your future snakey friend

Very good choice. I agree that more people need to take a look at the whole and react along these lines.

Re: I'm not getting a Snake
Congrats on making the tough decision. Too many times do people make an impulse buy then its the snake that suffers. Those are the people that you hear the horror stories about. Like they feed their snake once every 3months and have an adult bp in a ten gallon with no heat. deciding not to get one now shows that when you do get one you will be a very responsible snake owner and will do everything you can to meet all of your snake's needs.

Re: I'm not getting a Snake
Thanks everyone - after adding up the costs of initial setup: lid (I have a tank), heat pad, hygrometer, bedding, hides, the snake itself, and feeder rats (which are expensive around here, by the way). I realized it was just too much cost for now.
I may slowly buy each piece one at a time and eventually I will have a setup, then snake will come when budget allows!

This is how I am feeling as well. Recent physical injuries have costed me lots of money for my own treatment. I was going to start my breeder's collection by buying a nice Pastel Het OG girl from mykee, but I think I may need to hold off until one or two more paychecks arrive. Makes me sad but I gotta take care of myself before I can take on another snake
I love our community here and how we all genuinely love snakes so much. (y)

Re: I'm not getting a Snake
These are the reasons I havent picked up some of the offers a breeder friend made to me (he's downsizing and wants to see them go to a good home) and its VERY hard to pass up when he's offering

amazon.com is a great place to find the lowest prices on many of those things, you can make your own hides out of tuperware and bedding you can use paper towels, its not the prettiest solution, but its cheap. All pets are expensive, but you can reduce the cost to yourself by buying smart. Also flexwatt can be had for cheap if you're ok using it and sort of making your own heat pad yourself.
