House Geckos

Since moving into the new place a few weeks ago, I've found several little baby looking geckos inside. So far all I'm doing is catch and release. But I'm scared these little things aren't gonna survive long as there's a few roaming cats around. I have a couple of critter keepers and thought about releasing them somewhere where they might be a little safer but it may take me a few days to release them in a better area so I would need to know how to care for them until I can release them. The fiancee wants to keep them as pets now. lol Since I have almost absolutely no knowledge of lizards, I'd like some info so I can decide what to do with the next one I find in my house.

I'm not sure if they are house geckos, but they look exactly like this little one I googled. Animal Care/House Gecko - Wikibooks, open books for an open world Is the information that's given on this site pretty accurate? How well do these wild caught ones do in captivity? Not 100% sure I'll keep one, but they are cute little buggers. I just want to do what would be best for them.

Thanks for any information and suggestions!

P.S. The one I just caught I almost stepped on in the shower.

"House gecko" can be used to refer to geckos that are found commonly in an area that locals don't know the real name for. My house is covered in so-called "house geckos" that are actually Mediterranean or Indo-Pacific geckos that have long invaded FL with the importing of palm trees and other plants from other continents to FL centuries ago. They are now considered "native" to Florida and pose no danger to the ecosystem So "house gecko" can refer to a variety of native geckos in the US as far as I know

Re: House Geckos

They are not native to the US. They came over on boats, etc. We have a ton of them down here in SE Texas, most likely because Port Arthur and the Port of Galveston are so close to us. I've really seen an incease in them over the past 5 years. Really neat little geckos!!!

Re: House Geckos

I know right? I've seen a couple here and there at other places I've lived but seems like where I'm at now (same city/state I've been in for the last 11 years) there's just an abundance of them. I've found 4 since I've been here and I've only been here since the middle of last month. Kinda makes me wonder if it's right after breeding season or something....
