Nice snake but they really shouldnt be handled at that age, the risk of damaging the tail and thus potentially killing the snake is too high in my opinion.

Re: im snake sitting my mate GTP thought i would post some pics
it depends how u hold them. it takes abit of time to coach them off the perch but once uve got them there fine i had to get her out to move house. only got her for a week so she can just stay in the cage till then dont want anything happening to her tail

if he is close to a year old its ok to hold him, like Lumin the retic said its just on how you take them off the perch...you need to let the snake come off the perch by them self and not pull them off thats how you can hurt them.

Re: im snake sitting my mate GTP thought i would post some pics
The vast majority of GTP owners that i have spoken to, as well as one of the biggest breeders of them in the UK, say that they should not be held at all until they have finished their colour change, the only time the breeder moves the snakes he lifts the entire perch and relocates it rather than touch the snake in any way.

I think you can break the spine by being too rough with the tail. Clarify, someone?

yes Eli there spine is really fragile and thats why they should not be sexed until they are a year old

Re: im snake sitting my mate GTP thought i would post some pics
If the tail does get damaged then in a lot of cases they will starve as they cant/wont learn to take food without hanging from a perch, they feed hanging upside down.

Re: im snake sitting my mate GTP thought i would post some pics
If the animal has already begun its color change its likely over a year old and therefore safe to be handled for limited periods of time. The danger of "tail kinks" comes with neonates whose vertebrae are much more fragile and susceptible to accidental breakage. As with holding any snake, the trick is knowing how to coax it into your hands as opposed to merely tugging on it.
