She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
Hey guys, just wondering if this is normal or not. My female ball has been hanging out on the cooler side for the majority of the past 2 days. My temps are fine, im getting 92 on the glass above the uth, 84 on warmer side, 76 on cooler side, 50-55% humidity.
I attempted to move her from the cooler hide to the warmer one earlier to see if she would thermoregulate, and sure enough an hour later, I came up and shes bundled up above the cool hide, which Ive never seen her do before. Its like she doesnt like the heat. The UTH is regulated by a thermostat too.

What are the exact temps? Mine does that too when the temps are off, especially when the warm side is hotter than she wants/likes.

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
My temps are fine but my BP spends a lot of time in the cool side hide, they are intelligent enough to get heat whe they want it, we just have to provide them the opportunity.

its 93 F on the hotspot above the UTH as of right now, i even put my hand in and down on the glass, and the glass is barely noticeably warm. thermometer probe says 93 tho so I believe it
its 87 on the warm side and 75 on the cooler side, she stayed in the cool hide all night too

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
My bp goes through phases of this. Sometimes he's goes back and forth all day, and sometimes he goes 2 or 3 days on his cool side or hot side alone. I've never thought much about it so I think it's normal... or else we both have weird snakes

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
Sounds normal to me. One of my pythons just spent the past three/four days curled in their hide. At least whenever I was around to see. Randomly came out to investigate today while I was doing some stuff in the reptile room. Unless something else is a miss it sounds fine.

My BRB does this too from time to time. Maybe she's on the warm side when you aren't around thats my guess

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
The weird thing is, shes not in her hide on the cool side.. Shes sandwiched herself between the glass and the cold hide and shes been chilling there for the past 3 days now.
I took her out late last night to feed her, and she ate within seconds. She's probably completely fine if she'll eat, right? After eating last night after I put her back in her tank, she kept stretching her mouth completely open, as if yawning. Is that normal too?
Temps are 91, 84, 77, 55% humidity.

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
Kaybe, my adult bp, like I said earlier, also has phases of staying on one side or the other for a few days. If your bp is eating you don't have anything to worry about in my opinion. They open their mouths as if yawning after eating to readjust their jaws (since they "dislocate" them when they eat). I always get good shots of Kaybe yawning after meals! I don't think you should be worrying. She might also be going to her warmer side during the night when you're sleeping or not watching and you just don't know it

No worries then. As long as the temps are right, they will go where ever they want. Mine does the same thing. I was concerned at first too, but like you, the temps were good and she ate with no issue. So just knock it up for an odd nuance of the breed.
Like eating food butt first or sideways. ...

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
with my carpets i set the hot end at what a care sheet would reccomend, then let the snake tell me what it wants
if it stays up the cool end all the time,i drop the hot end temps 2 degrees at a time every 7 to 10 days
i keep lowering until the snake uses both ends of the tank to thermoregulate
if a snake was up the hot end all the time i'd do the opposite and raise my temperature every 7 to 10 days and let the snake tell me when i got it correct ( when raising temp's i only raise by 1 degree at a time )
snakes are all different and recomended temps imo are just a rough guide to what you need to do
its only carpet pythons i keep and some like it hotter or cooler than the rest
cheers shaun

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
So its been 4 days now, temps are still the same, shes gone in the cool hide once and shes avoided the hot side for the last 4 days. Temps are 76, 84, 92, 55% humidity.
It seems this new "spot" of hers, between the glass and the cold hide is her favorite chill spot. Didnt I read somewhere that if your bp isnt in its hide most of the time, theres something wrong?
Does anyone else's BP chill outside their hide?

Re: She's stayed on the cool side for 2 days
I think you may have "new snake owner syndrome"
We have all had it, we expect our snakes to act like everyone elses or to do things by the book - they dont, clutchmates kept in identical conditions in a lab will act differently, grow differently etc etc
Unless the snake is a) not eating b) not shedding properly or c) looking in poor condition/showing signs of ill health then your best bet is to chill and let it teach ou what it specifically likes.
Everything will be fine and in a few months you will "know" your snake and know what is right or wrong for him.
