Good beginner-intermediate snake?
Hey there I am sure you guys get these sort of posts all the time, But I am really interested in buying a snake... My brother had 2 Ball pythons and he currently has a (Im not sure what it is but Im sure its) Jungle carpet python
I dont neccisarily want a ball python because I think they're a little fat... I want a constrictor though, I couldnt decide between a Python or Boa so I was wondering if anybody could help me out with some useful tips for any cool snakes that arent really common that arent too hard to handle
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
We just got a Albino gopher snake a month ago. We were actually looking to get a BP. The store we went to had many sweet BPs and some nice looking kings. I told the guy my kids would probably handle the snake alot and he right away said" check this guy out" he reached into a viv and pulled out a 2 ft long gopher from a previous clutch. He right away just handed it to my son. Beautiful snake and so tame yet curious and busy. Well we had to have one. This is my thread on Skittles. So my vote is to check out a gopher. Good luck and I think its cool to be different. Everyone has a BP right.

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
I'm biased towards Australian species... so either any of the Antaresias (childrens, spotted, stimsons) or a Woma.

Woma pythons are stunning, and not that costly. You can get a high contrast woma for a few 100$

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
I think a woma would be a good choice, they aren't as common as a ball and they are generally a docile snake from what I've read and seen. Just look them up and see if you like them. You didn't give a preference of size, but if you want something smaller, a childrens or spotted would be great.

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
You could look into rosy boas... they make great "beginner-intermediate" snakes, and they're not "fat" like the ball python. They're docile and can be quite fun

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
Why is everyone so anti colubrid??
There are a thousand other options that are not constrictors.

There are constrictor colubrids as well, like Wayne said.

Supasnake said: "I want a constrictor though" which is why people are giving constrictor options. But there are some constricting colubrids too

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
yuppers, corns are constrictors I believe, (I know my female is!!) and the biggest problems you'd have with corns is which one to bring home, as there are so very many beautiful morphs available out there.
Corns are where I started (still only have corns, but I have 3 now!) and I love them!! And I want more of them!!

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
Colubrids rock. And like Wayne said are usually easier.
If you want a constrictor lots of colubids constrict, corn snakes are really easy colubrids that constrict... Lots of cool morphs out there.
And they aret fat.

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
^ what he/she said! they are nicely streamlined snakes. My adults are 36" and 42" and have beautiful muscle tone, no fat there!!

He!
They aren't as fun as garters but pretty cool.
Milk snakes are awesome colubrids. They constrict...

Re: Good beginner-intermediate snake?
Here's a link to the corn snake morphs.
While I don't like what people have done with the corn snake morphs, check out this site and you'll see you have a looooot of choices. Cornsnake Morph Gallery | The Ultimate Online Photo Guide to Cornsnake Mutations
And a corn snake pic (normal)
And a milk snake pic. Milk snakes are just plain awesome.
