Why you don't leave the snake cage open.
Wasn't feeding time or anything, just middle of the day. I opened the cage for whatever reason I had and just watched my 3 garter snake babies move around. I never worry too much about leaving the lid off cause there's no way for them to get out. They aren't long enough, nothing reaches the top, and and they can't climb the glass. No reason to worry.
Uh huh.

Re: Why you don't leave the snake cage open.
lol That's why I use the lock on mine. With my luck Diesel (Fat Cat) would try to love on Sasha (BP), Fritz (Mean cat) would try to eat her, and Evie (Sweet cat) would stand back watching the show waiting on popcorn....
I don't know who would win between Fritz and Sasha and I am scared to find out!

The cat of course!
Not.
Unless it's an exceptionally large BP.

Re: Why you don't leave the snake cage open.
LOL Would end badly for both. Fritz is a hunter, he doesn't like Sasha..he has eaten many snakes in the wild and his eyes get as big as dinner plates when I take Sasha out of the viv. (Thank God Rabbit season is over...for weeks I had to wash rabbit body fluids off my front porch and bury remaining parts left uneaten. EW)
I can picture it well, Sasha completely wrapped around Fritz with ALL of Fritz claws and teeth embedded into Sasha. And both being dead...I would cry forever.

Re: Why you don't leave the snake cage open.
That particular snake loves 'em more. He's an anery red sided, and would rather eat fish then anything else. LOVES THEM. The fish were doomed.

I have seen a few snakes that have mastered getting wet and going right up the glass.

Re: Why you don't leave the snake cage open.
Awesome. This guy has recently mastered sticking to the glue in the corners! I never leave it open, even if I made it sound like I do.
Something I observed from these crazy smart garters, is when he climbed up the glue, my concinnus sat and watched him. Eyes on him the whole time. When he (anery) fell, the concinnus move in and tried it!! Seriously. True story. He was smart enough to see what he was doing an try it himself.
I love garter snakes.
