How can you tell I just got a camera!! Amel corn photos

These are our pair of amelanistic corns that are growing up some more this winter and will be paired up in 2004. We are very happy with how they are turning out with quite broad white borders.

Wouldn't your female (and even your male for that matter) be considered albino okeetees? They have beautiful white contours around the saddles. Are their bellies checkered?

Yes Pixie, I imagine they might be considered albino okeetees or reverse okeetees because of the broad white bands. They were supposed to have been sold as candy canes as babies, but I think it just illustrates how baby amels all look candy-cane-like and you have to be really careful that there has been a lot of selection in the line to know that you will get candy cane appearance in the adults. I am still happy with this pair, but would like a true candy cane pair some time in the future.

The interesting thing is that these are presumably not related - breeders were at opposite ends of the country. The bellies on these are white under the neck, have the clear-ish checkers in mid-body and are speckled red toward the tails.

Very nice! They both look a lot like my female amel. Except her belly is totally white and clear checkering. Would that make her an albino/reverse okeetee? (I always thought she was).

Hey Dawn -- good to see you post - how are all those exotic baby corns of yours -- need to see some pictures.

The clear spot on her head is a couple clear scales - they are transparent rather than white - like belly scales - they just don't seem to have color. Makes her quite distinctive!

My amel has 2 very similar clear spots on her head... it looks like her frontal scale is actually short.

I've seen a few other amel pics with bald spots... wonder if it occurs in any other morphs, or if it's related to amelism somehow...

My Serpenco hatchlings are all happy and healthy... my blizzard kid regurged a while ago, but bounced back with no problems (he's a rather high-strung, whippy little thing, so something probably startled him). Haven't taken any recent pics... my card reader for my camera uninstalled itself and I haven't gotten around to fixing it. Soon though!

One of my other charcoal hatchlings is giving me problems though... little bugger hasn't visibly grown since I got him, and he had six meals right off the bat that stayed down. Then he regurged, took a few more pinks, and now he's regurged again twice in a row. His sister is doing just fine, and is amost twice his size now... he just does not seem to want to thrive. Very frustrating.

Interesting about the 'bald' spots, I will be watching mine to see if it changes with age. G

lad to hear the Serpenco babies are doing great - but too bad about the charcoal - frustrating when they don't settle down. One of our snows was like that when we first got him, refusing food and then bringing a couple back up. I took his feeding to every two weeks instead of every 5 days and though he grew more slowly he is doing well now - about 6 months old and he is back to weekly feedings and growing well. Good luck with that guy.
