Temporary tubs....

Well my baby snakes are chilling in sterilite tubs with papertowels, a hide, and a water bowl. I cleaned out their tanks and am waiting for the provent-a-mite to come in tomorrow. Doesn't look nearly as nice as their usual enclosures, but the tubs are definitely keeping the humidity up for my CRB's and the baby corn is about to shed so she seems pretty content also. Actually, I could almost say they like the tubs better!! They are all stretched out in there and seem very calm. Maybe I should treat the tubs too and leave them in there till they get a little bigger!

Baby snakes need humidity for the most part, tubs are fantastic.
When I get my retics they will be in Rubbermaids for the first year or so.

Not a bad idea... Young snakes left alone in a tub will benefit from the reduced traffic, making them less stressed and more willing to accept food.

Yeah, these tubs aren't very big cause I only meant to use them for a day or so, but that doesn't seem to bother them. Not to change the subject, but I noticed a threat where people were discussing the different types of heat they use for their enclosures (UTH, lights, RHP, etc). I don't use anything.....It is so hot down here in southeast texas, their enclosures stay 80 to 82 degrees during the day and 75 to 78 at night, the exact temps for CRB's and fine for corns too. Now I will get something before winter gets here, probaby radiant heat panels.

The only potential issue is the lack of a temperature gradient.

Yeah, I've read on that......when I get their permanent enclosures in October, going to look at the Houston Repticon, I'm going ahead and getting the pro-products radiant heat panels to put in them.

During the warm months, I have the heat the hot end of my terrariums, and I sit the low end on the AC vent, it keep the low end 10-15 degrees lower then the hot end. (Some of my terrariums, and I monitor the temps)

The last two winters in Texas have been colder than in previous years and this will be my first experience with snakes and cold weather, I'm sure it will be a learning experience but I'm doing my homework now, so hopefully I will get it right!!!

I have my ball in a tub and it work perfect for him I have to upgrade him to a bigger one and i'm super excited, it really is easy to make everything perfect in them, I have no problem with the temp gradient with the heat pad.

Great thanks!! Mine seem really content in the tubs, I can't see them that well, but can tell they are moving around which works for me. I've always loved reptiles, but as a first time snake owner, I worry about something happening to them all the time, lol !! No confidence yet I suppose. I've had dogs my whole life, not to mention they can kinda let you know if they are sick by how they act. I can always tell when my cocker spaniel is sick cause she'll just lay on me or won't eat, nose is dry and warm, etc. With reptiles, I have no experience, so I find myself peeking in the tubs every once in a while when they aren't moving around just make sure they are still alive!

Yeah I know how you feel, even Thil (bearded Dragon) has ways to tell me if something is wrong so I really baby Brood. I know lots of people around here who had their snakes in tanks and just random switched to tubs and saw improvement, nothing amazing but enough that they decided to keep the change, mostly just Balls though. Brood was in one before I got him so I decided to keep it, always thought I would switch to a tank but I think it would just freak him out since the tub keeps down the visibility so well and he has his hides, I don't think I could ever use anything but newspaper, he stays in his hides and when he poops if i'm not home he crawls under the newspaper (its really cute) but other then that the hides are enough

Keep in mind, when I say COLD, I mean -40 degrees Fahrenheit + a wind chill. :P

WOW!!! I'd turn into a human popsickle, lol !!!! My husband always picks at me and says I'm actually a retile because I'm most comfortable about 78 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. My family will be sweating and I'm perfect! I don't know if I could put on enough clothes to stay warm at -40!!! Hope you have a good heater. I think I read somewhere you use both under the tank heating and radiant heat panels for your reptiles or was it someone else???
