Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
So... When I was a kid, I chopped my finger off (minus some skin on the side) the doctors re-attached it minus the tendon so I have had a useless finger since that only bent about 5 degrees.
We were just getting to the waterfall today and my cousin Miles slammed the car door on my hand, guess what... IT HURT, my hand was caught in the door for a good 30 seconds.
The good news is, for some reason my finger has about 45 degrees of movement now, absolutely no idea why. We did some cliff jumping and rock/waterfall climbing, was totally badass.
MY FINGER WORKS NOW!!!!!!!!! WTF???
It's got like 40 degrees of movement more then it has ever had since the accident. The doctors said about 4 years ago that if I got surgery on it I would only get about 25 degrees of movement total... How the hell did I get 20 degrees more movement then I otherwise would have gotten from the surgery by slamming my hand in a car door.

ROTFL You shocked nerves back into motion. Made the brain realize that there was a finger there and that it could move it.
Oh and now I have to see a picture of your hand and this wampijawed finger.

Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
Tomorrow, I'll take photos.
Its technically impossible for it to have the movement it has, my understanding is a finger can't bend without a tendon, and the tendon was so ruined the doctors couldn't reattach it (this is like 15 years ago). They told me that for the surgery, they would cut a strip of tendon from my leg or something and put it in my finger.

I think ^ that is a possibility, you should start a business of fixing people's injuries by slamming their parts in doors.

Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
I'd need a few test subjects to prove this out? Any takers?!

Maybe you can fix my right arm? It has a metal plate inside it and from time to time it goes numb.

That is just plain epic! Crazy dangerous if the necrotic zombie part of the human takes over the thinking part, but still awesome.

Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
Wow, that is interesting. My guess would be that you had scar tissue built up in there that was inhibiting movement that otherwise would have been there. There is some repair and regeneration that can occur in peripheral nervous system tissue (anythign not the brain or spine). I think that even though the tendon was largely destroyed, some of the tissue repaired enough to allow minor movement, but it was inhibited by stiff scar tissue build-up. When you slammed your hand in the car door, you might have broken some of the scar tissue, loosening things up and allowing movement again.
Just an idea.

Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
Sounds interesting.
Quick note, as of this morning I have almost 160 degrees of movement, I can bend it to about 1-2CM away from the base of the finger without assistance from the other fingers.
