Finally a proud snake keeper!
So today my girlfriend and I decided to take a trip to the Mall Of America and afterwards we went to check out Twin Cities Reptiles. The last time I had talked to them they didn't have any BRBs ready yet. Well anyways they ended up having four babies that were born on June 11th of this year. I just couldn't resist I ended up buying a beautiful female. I even got to look at and hold both the mom and dad. Today was great!

Re: Finally a proud snake keeper!
I will post pics as soon as I can I promise. The guy at the shop told me she was due to eat tonight and to try and feed her so I figured what the heck why not try. I left her alone for awhile and she started roaming around her cage so I dangled a f/t pinkie in front of her and she snatched it up like no ones business. What I thought was funny was that the guy at the shop said she was refusing f/t so they were just giving her live. I bought a live and a couple frozen pinkies and just scented the frozen and she took it within seconds. I know you are supposed to wait a week to feed but I figured since it was feeding day for her anyways why not keep the schedule.

Re: Finally a proud snake keeper!
Scenting frozen pinks with live mouse scent usually does the trick. Glad it ate for you! Hopefully it will continue to do so.

Re: Finally a proud snake keeper!
I was so excited that she ate! I was surprised she took the frozen without any hesitation but I couldn't be happier.

Re: Finally a proud snake keeper!
Some say feeding them same day they get home is fine others say wait a week.
Eother way now that he has eaten make sure you give him a week to settle in and then PICTURES!!! :P

Re: Finally a proud snake keeper!
Congrats on the family member, Nismo! I must admit, I've *very* strongly in the "wait a week camp" -- snakes can associate food with the stress of a trip and become harder to feed in the future -- but it seems to have turned out well here. I agree with letting her settle for a week, then taking picts. Again, congrats!

I will definitely be giving her a week to settle in so hopefully she will take a f/t next week too. I don't have any source of live pinkies around me unless I drive almost two hours. I'm considering breeding some mice. Do Brazilians stay on mice their whole lives or do they need rats eventually?
