One Year old male bp
Hi, I just joined this forum after looking at a few threads I found and decided to ask myself to see what you guys think. A few months ago I purchase a male spider ball who has been doing amazing with me and I don't have any problems the thing i'm asking about is that on July 23 he was exactly a year and a month old so just a bit more then a month now. I measured him last night and he is currently a bit over 32 inchs what I'm wondering is if this is normal, I contacted his breeder who has his hatch date and photos of him hatching to confirm it is my animal but while searching people have said that this size could be big for his age and that they usually don't break 2 feet when they are a year. Now I don't know about these remarks on one thread a person who stated being a breeder for quite a few years said they have never seen a yearling more then two feet so i'm curious if my boy is big for his age, and yes he was popped and he is male.
Thanks for any replies!

Re: One Year old male bp
In my experience with the limited amount of snakes I've had, I've noticed that individual snakes will grow at different rates. I have three from the same clutch and all three are different sizes. So I would think as long as you have a proper setup and you're feeding appropriately, then I wouldn't be too worried about you're guy growing so much. Just out of curiosity, what are you feeding and how often do you feed?

Small rats, I might have to upgrade him soon since its not leaving him with much of a bump and he is pretty much inhaling them, also about once about every week give or take a day and also depending on shedding.
He takes food like a pro never refused and f/t of course.

Re: One Year old male bp
I don't know what they are talking about. My last ball python was just under 3 foot by the time he hit a year. Hhe would eat anything from small mice to lager rats. If one of my other snakes didn't eat i give it to him and he scarf it down. Never missed a meal. I thing he thought he was a Carpet. Very active, always perched on a branch, and had the feeding response of a Retic.

You have a ball python that loves to eat. Your schedule and size of prey is spot on. I wouldn't change a single thing that you're doing. I wish my spider was like that, she is easily my pickiest eater out of my whole collection.

Re: One Year old male bp
I was afraid he would be a picky eater when I first got him since he is my first but he really great with them, having a bit of trouble lately but he never gives up. I'm glad he is growing good and thanks for all the replies
