:( Flusterated. What to do what to do...
This sucks. I'm not sure if this is really appropriate to post on the forum but I didn't know where else to go over it all.
So I've been struggling to get myself an apartment to go to college. I have been accepted into general arts and sciences for now, and want to earn my zoology or biology degree and be a hepetologist.
My apartment applications just won't go through, and now everywhere I can afford is taken.
I've had a friend offer to share an apartment with me, but no pets. She has her own, doesn't want mine... My parents have offered, actually, are urgding me, to leave behind my three snakes, my gecko, my two cats, and my dog, who is only seven months old now, with them for the school year. ..
Everyone is really pushing me to do this, and I'm sitting here in tears because I can' stand the idea of not being with them.
Ugh.

Re: :( Flusterated. What to do what to do...
How cfar is it from school to home? Would you be able to keep in touch often? How busy is school gonna be - practically would you be able to properly look after all the animals AND properly commit to study? Do you trust parents to care for the animals as you would?
No answers i'm afraid but some things to consider logically rather than emotionally when you make the decision.
Hope it all works for you.

Sometimes you have to make really hard choices in our life to make the long term descisions better. I have had to give up pets and find them new homes several times because of things just like this. In the long run I think school is more important than pets, especially college. You only get one or two chances for college...but you have a lifetime to get pets.
That is just my opinion.

Re: :( Flusterated. What to do what to do...
If your parents cant watch them properly and you have no friends who can, I would probably be able to assuming you trust me to do it, and refund me on their food.
Minus the cats, my cat hates other cats.
Might be better then giving your animals up for adoption.

Re: :( Flusterated. What to do what to do...
Mhmm, Believe me, I know where you're coming from. I went away to school last year for the first time ever. I left behind my 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 snakes (as well as my sister and friends). It was not tough. I took my gecko though. My roomates thought I was crazy but I would always say goodnight to my gecko. It took me a long time to get used to the no pets, it was too quiet, I found myself watching animals on youtube quite a bit :P
Is there a way that maybe you could take just 1 or 2 of your pets? Maybe you could call the other places, sell yourself to the landlord by summing up all your great tenant qualities and perhaps you could strike a deal? maybe even a different payment plan?
Maybe you could go home and visit often if it's not too far?
Best of luck!!!! Keep us updated!

Re: :( Flusterated. What to do what to do...
I had the hardest time finding an apartment. My income is pure cash sales of Antiques and hockey cards, also a 4 day a week11.00/hr job. So technically on paper I am poor. I looked for weeks I finally found a place, met with a landlord who had a picture on his desk with him holding a stunning RTB w/ his son. We talked for hours about snakes. I left him my number to reach me if the application went through, he phoned a few hours later and he said he would be thrilled to have me as a tenant. (I have to pay an extra $40.00 per month for electricity.)
Hopefully you will find a place, if you were closer there are a few units available here.

BTW Nova is doing great I still have yet to see her "evil" side, one of the most tolerable snakes I have. Thanks again.

My advice is just the same, the education is YOUR future, I can honestly say in retrospect of my own life, pursue the college now, you will regret it later if you don't.

Sorry everyone, I didn't have time to post again last night.

Depending on who is driving, 5-6 hours. Collingwood to Kingston. I do not drive, so I would have to depend on others to get me home. My parents won't be picking me up; they're not in the best health (another reason I rather not leave seven pets with them. x.x) and don't do that long of drives.

I would keep in touch for sure. School won't be very busy - it's a silly general arts and science coarse I'm not even sure why I'm taking anymore. I'd like to believe I could continue to properly care for them - my animals are not just my pets, or a hobby, they really are a huge part of my life, and my dad to day routine pretty much revolves around them. The only reason I'm interested in going to school is to hopefully get a good job and afford to work with them more and more. But - that is a point I my parents are worried about and I guess I wouldn't know until I was there for sure...

Thanks, that means a lot. I phoned the vet I work with to talk to her about it, and she told me she wouldn't go to school if she couldn't take her horses... Nice to know there's some understanding.

Unfortunately I feel like I've missed many chances. I went through breast cancer my grade 12 year, so while some of friends are done or near done or atleast in school - I am not. Rehoming though - just doesn't seem like an option to me, expecially since most of my pets are rescues - I feel like now they are my responsibility I took on, and I shouldn't go dumping them on others. (My cats each have health issues, my puppy is prone to urine and ear infections) And as I said... I don't feel like I'm simply talking about disposable pets. Their literally like my children. The thought of leaving them behind or whatever kills me.
 So many things to consider.

But in what condition? Will my puppy be untrained, will all the hard work I've spent these few months working with her go to waste? Even my father isn't comfortable taking Richard out of his tank, even though he will hold him afterwards (He is WINGY when you first lift him up) how will they clean up his nasty poops? Will they bathe him each time he sheds and drags himself all through his water dish and poo and makes a mess of himself...Will they know the difference between a normal and not normal activity? My dad taught me how to handle snakes, but he doesn't know much when it comes to captives. He still goes to hold poor Blue by the head each time he picks her up and scares her to death. Will they pay for Schuberts expensive Hypoallergenic food and rub lotion on his neck everyday... Will they fight my vicious cat Sylvie down to trim her nails so she can't attack Schubert? Blah! Sooo many things to worry about!!!

If I'm staying with my one friend, no I can not take any of them. She feels it wouldn't be fair to her pets to bring the mammals. (Dog, cat, beardie.) then she is NOT a fan of reptiles besides her own. Not even lil Rog man my gecko.
I've tried offering other places to pay up to half the total rent at once, no go. I even got my grandfather who is retired and used to own a big publishing business to co-sign but for some reason still no go...
Unfortunately visits will be only big holidays.

Just my thought.. but It seems like you have already made up your mind. No one can make this choice for you. Make a list of all the pro's and con's of going and the situations to help you see why you are doing what you do..
I wish you the best in your decision.

I'm really stressed about this, along with many other things, and my boyfriend has his own issues going on so I haven't wanted to worry him more...What did I do before this forum? :S
