super long strike

i usually feed f/t, but i gave my girl dum 1 more live before i switched her over to f/t because she's only eatin 1 rat since switching from mice. usually all the snakes i've had pretty much wait for the live rat to walk RIGHT up to them before they strike but she caught the scent and kind of stared at the rat from across the tank. suddenly she struck from CLEAN across the cage, probably about 8-12 inches away and NAILED it lol. she dragged it back to the hide her other half was in and made quick work of it. was crazy to watch lol.

Re: super long strike

i just fed live because that's what she's used to and i didn't want to f/k a rat and have her deny it. i'm probably going to f/k her meal next week then go f/t from then on if she will take to it.

Re: super long strike

Longest strike i have experienced was our SD Retic - he hit a f/t rat from a good 36" away and still ripped it from the tongs and took it another 6" or so! Gave me quite a shock i can tell you!!!

Re: super long strike

Cool! I love watching big strikes.
Rob, I know all about retic strikes...they are insane! My SD would fly 2-3 feet clean out of her cage every time it was feeding time. If there was not a rat conveniently directly in front of her when she struck, she'd hit and latch onto whatever she came in contact with....the feeding bucket, heater, floor.....

Re: super long strike

It is crazy - almost schizophrenic - how their personality changes. He is one of my main snakes for kids to hold/stroke because he is SOOO docile but as soon as the feed response starts he is a totally different animal to look at and his attitude is awful. I literally will not put my hand in there for 48 hours after he feeds.

Re: super long strike

The first time I fed Morpheus, my little columbian rainbow, I fed him in the tank, 20L right now till he gets bigger, and I was trying to lure him to the opposite side of the tank where there was just newspaper and nothing he could swallow, well I dangled the f/t mice in front of him and them slowly moved it to the other side of the tank, I expected him to kinda follow along, get up to it and just grab it, but he shot his entire body across that tank before I could blink and wrapped it up!!! That was my first ever feeding experience and it was awesome!!!!! I jumped three feet, lol, and my hubby laughted his *** off!!!
