Got my 1st BITE!!!!! :):)

well, today, i got all my snakes out, held them all, and gave them all new water and cleaned their cages a lil.

Bean, my baby anery shed for me all in 1 piece, so that was a good start...

got my adult bp out, and she was perfect, like always...

then i got to my pastel. took the rock hide off of her and i seen she was "balled" so i went to pick her up, and she changed and went to striking position, i balled my fist up, and went slowly towards her... she bit me did not hurt at all.... lol.

*pics or it didnt happen*

any way, after the bite, i picked him right up after that and he was still VERY offensive, stuck at me 2 times while i had him, but after a few min he calmed down...

sadly though, he wouldn't get down on the floor and craw like he normally does... oh well.

i am part of the bite club now lol. glads its over.

oh yea, my snow corn and BRB acts like they didn't want to be held... usually they both are fine, but today it was like weird how they were acting...

Defensive...snakes have two reasons to strike: 1) in defense and 2) in a feeding response. The former is a strike and release (typically). The latter is always worse and (typically) involves a strike, wrap and hold! If it's a kingsnake, add chewing!

Congrats and welcome to the club!

So true! I got chewed on by my cali king last night. He held on for a good 5 mins and only let go to bite again but I avoided that one

I have a perfect bite mark, showing all his teeth!

Welcome to the club LiL_Boa

Re: Got my 1st BITE!!!!! :):)

My wife's ball python bit me once. My fault since I forgot to wash after handling a mouse. She struck my hand and then proceeded to wrap and constrict what she must have thought was the biggest rodent she would ever see! She would not let go until I ran her head and my hand under some cold water for a few minutes. As soon as she let go she was as calm as could be as if to say "I didn't do anything". The strike itself was worse than the bite but neither one was all that bad.

On the other hand my red tailed boa did the same thing to my wife (for the same reason) about a year later. He bit her but immediately released as soon as he determined it was not food. She said it was a "bit" painful and left some nice teeth marks! I imagine it was considerably worse than when I got bit since my red tail was about 3 times the size of her ball.
