Smile ??how do you breed your carpets??

??how do you breed your carpets??
hey there i hope you dont mind but i was looking into breeding in the future and was wanting to know everybody that breeds carpets pythons methods and what you use.

ie
when do you start to cool them down, when you stop and start feeding, when you warm them back up again, what temps, when to place the male and female together, when to seperate and what viv (males or females) and how you get your eggs, and what incubator you use,i know bits here and there, but im looking into learning soo much more that i dont want to stop learning.

I hope there is a carpet breeder out there that wouldnt mind sharing his/her opinions.would be awesome.

Thanks
Andy

There is a rule when it comes to breeding snakes, keep the ladies happy. The reason you cool the males is to increase sperm count, when it comes to females you want to keep them at the correct temps an not cool them at all.

Some need cooling, some will breed regardless of cooling simply by you introducing the male into the females enclosure. Really dependant on the animals themselves. I've had animals I need to cool, and animals who are ready to breed despite having never been cooled in their lives.

The cooling isn't so much to arouse them, its more to increase sperm count.

I've never seen a difference between cooling/not cooling in terms of fertility in any of my snakes. I've found more issues with getting them to breed at all in some cases, than fertility.

seeing a difference doesn't say much, when top breeders get their snakes TESTED before and after it shows something.
You can have 100 trillion swimmers in full suites of armor and swords, but if that egg is lined with kevlar you wont get any babies (i know this sounds silly but i couldn't help it lol)

Refusal to partake in mating is a behavioural issue brought on by not being cooled. It's an instinctual behaviour hardwired into them.. no winter, no spring, no reason to mate.

Brxy7...
I suggest you get a hold of a book called "keeping and breeding Australian Pythons" by Mike Swann. There is not a single serious reptile hobbyist here in Australia that does not own this book (myself included). We pretty much consider it as our go to book.

now that book is on my wishlist as im in the uk it is ever so hard to aquire here, though i will have to pay the 70 or so £ to have it,i know this book is a favourite amongst the carpet breeders, and i cant wait to aquire it myself.
i will be cooling both my carpets in the uk from october to feb,i have a long way to go atleast 2 more seasons before so im open to learn, and this book i will get that.
cheers.

I know Pythonman and Mark Gonesnakee both breed carpets. You could try PM them.
