This is why people don't respect Canada...

Or know it exists for the most part, but that's another story..

Foreign Affairs acknowledges Taliban video of captured Toronto man - Yahoo! News

This brilliant fellow from my city decided he'd go on vacation somewhere exotic and far away. Hawaii? Maybe Polynesia? Some nice tropical island? No! Afghanistan!

Idiots....... ...

So anyways, somehow, this idiot gets into Afghanistan, and during his travels in this extremely safe country, he is kidnapped and now he's being held for ransom. Wow. Really? No way.

Isn't stupid?

The guy went on vacation in a war zone.
I bet when he gets home he'll reach for that container labeled bleach and pour himself a cold one. How idiotic can people get.

Go to Hawaii. Seriously. It's really nice, the weather's great, everyone's friendly and welcoming, there are lots of beautiful beaches, there's wildlife, surfing, snorkeling, volcano tours. All of this is much nicer than the equally expensive plane ticket to Afghanistan, where there is less wildlife, no surfing, no snorkeling, no volcano tour, and a high probability of being shot or kidnapped, then shot. I don't get it.

He's toast. After Osama, I really doubt even if the ransom is paid he gets released...

Honestly Randy I don't think it would have ever happened where he would get out alive...Osama dead or not.

Re: This is why people don't respect Canada...

I wouldn't say that people don't respect Canada for things like this, there are always idiots everywhere, it's just a matter of if the media releases a story on them or not to the world. This guy obviously wasn't the smartest to go to Afghanistan but maybe we don't have the full or real story?

who knows, but I would say that the worlds outlook on Americans is far worse than Canadians unfortunately... but again, look at how the mass media portrays Americans vs Canadians. We live in igloos for 11 months of the year and ride polar bears to work where we club seals while they eat mcdonalds, shoot each other, and get fat.

both are pretty wrong.

I wouldn't call him stupid, My family and i spend a large amount of time in the middle easy, my cousins go to Afghanistan every other year and we spend allot of time in Dubai and different parts of Egypt. Contrary to what the majority of people will tell you, most of the people out there are nice.

Edit: We go there to visit family and friends.

i'd love to go to Egypt and Dubai, although I taught a kid from Saudi Arabia English last summer before he went to university here, he said that it's crazy in Dubai and there is always somebody richer than the other lol. I also had a friend in high school from Emirates, he said when he'd go back (his family still had a condo there since his dad's businesses were still running in Emirates) he would drive his own Benz (not sure of the model) but than three people in ferrari's or lambo's would roll up beside you like it was nothing...

i bet they would laugh at my ride (peterborough transit) hahaha the loser cruiser is cheaper for me than a car since i have to pay off school...

DON'T, I repeat DO NOT drive in egypt yourself if you are anything but an expert and confident driver. There is no real maintained speed limit and if you don't cut everyone off when you get the chance they will pick you out for your weakness and make your driving life hell.
It's an awesome place to visit, but the driving gave me nightmares (i was 11 the first time)

Surely we haven't forgotten about the American hikers that were captured in Iran. You know, the ones that accidentally wandered across the border? Whoops!

Re: This is why people don't respect Canada...

I don't know why people in general have an obsession with going to dangerous areas of our world. Be it wild dangerous untamed areas, or areas that are in diplomatic/war time turmoil. Is it that they hear about this place called "Egypt" suddenly on the news and then spurred mentally into going on to the place? Is it a whole "lets go look at the bodies" state of mind? The chance to see war up close and personal?

If that is the case that guy certainly got it...and soon his head will be rolling on the floor. As awful as that sounds.
