Ghost Corn Photos
I'M CURRENTLY WORKING WITH 2.3 GHOST CORNS. THE 2 FEMALES BRED THIS YEAR BOTH PRODUCED NICE "FIRST" CLUTCHES & BOTH OF THEM "DOUBLE CLUTCHED" DESPITE NOT BEING BRED AGAIN. UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO THE LACK OF SPERM THE 2ND TIME ROUND ALL THE EGGS (JUST UNDER 30) WERE INFERTILE EXCEPT FOR 6 FROM THE ONE FEMALE. ANYONE THAT DOESN'T BELIEVE CORNS CAN "STORE" SPERM, I CAN OFFICIALLY VOUCH THAT "YES THEY CAN" OTHERWISE I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO PRODUCE THE 6 HEALTHY BABIES FROM WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN 18 SLUGS OTHERWISE. NEXT YEAR ALL THE FEMALES WILL BE BRED AFTER THEY PRODUCE WHETHER I WANT TO DOUBLE CLUTCH THEM OR NOT. WHY? BECAUSE BELIEVE IT OR NOT EVERY FEMALE COLUBRID (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE GR. BANDS) THAT PRODUCED FOR ME THIS YEAR "DOUBLE-CLUTCHED" ON THEIR OWN & WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE "6" MENTIONED ABOVE, ALL THE EGGS WERE INFERTILE "SLUGS". HERE I WAS TRYING TO GIVE ALL THE GIRLS A BREAK & THEY ALL GO & PRODUCE 2ND CLUTCHES ANYWAY. IT REALLY SUCKS TO THROW AWAY AROUND 100 EGGS THAT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD IF NOT FOR THE LACK OF SPERM. DOH!!! JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT WE CAN'T CONTROL EVERYTHING AS MUCH AS WE WOULD LIKE TOO.
HERE IS MY SMALLER FEMALE BREEDER:

Very nice -- ghosts sort of grow on you - I didn't care for them at first, but I am now looking to add some as well as some snows next year. Will be looking for you at the shows.

HI MARY V. THX FOR COMPLIMENTS
IF ALL GOES WELL I WILL BE ABLE TO OFFER UNRELATED PAIRS OF BOTH GHOSTS & SNOWS NEXT SUMMER. I AM WORKING WITH 1.2 SNOWS. NEXT YEAR I WILL ONLY BREED THE 2 GHOST FEMALES & THE ONE SNOW THOUGH. THE OTHER 2 (GHOST/SNOW) ARE BIG ENOUGH TO BURMATE & BREED NOW (BY MOST PEOPLES STANDARDS) BUT I'M GOING TO LET THEM GROW UP ANOTHER YEAR FIRST. I'VE HAD THEM SINCE THEY WERE BABIES & I WANT THEM TO GROW UP TO BE BIG "DOUBLE CLUTCHERS" SO I WON'T RISK "STUNTING THEM" BE BEING GREEDY & BREEDING THEM A YEAR EARLIER. HOPEFULLY IT WILL PAY OFF IN THE LONG RUN BY THEM PRODUCING BIGGER & HOPEFULLY 2ND CLUTCHES.
P.S. HAVE WE EVER MET IN PERSON? IF SO I DON'T RECALL (DOH!). YOU KNOW HOW IT IS ABOUT REPTILE SHOWS YOU REMEMBER THE SNAKES, BUT NOT SO MUCH THE PEOPLE. EITHER WAY I'LL PROBABLY SEE YOU IN CALGARY OR RED DEER & YOU'LL HAVE TO LET ME KNOW WHO YOU ARE L.O.L. MARK I. - GONE SNAKEE!

No Mark - we haven't met in person...
I am a lurker at reptile shows as well as on most forums - trying to be selective in what I pick out, but it is hard with so many species and nice herps to choose from. We have not been vendors at any of the Alberta shows, but we attend as many as we can.
I definately want to be on your waiting list for any snows that you produce from your ghost to ghost breedings this coming year. They would fit very well with a breeding program I have planned for my corns. I will e-mail you off forum to confirm.
thanks,
Mary v.
