If it's something important like you crashed your car, got hurt, house fell in, etc.. then by all means make your announcement.
What is happening is we are getting mired in threads making small talk and this confuses new members - just this week we had a post asking if we were even a reptile forum.
I can understand why, when the front page is riddled with new posts in threads like "I just got a new skateboard" and "My uncle turned 50 today" it not only confuses new members, but is screws up our search engine results.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this important matter.
