Yay! Khan ate :)
So some of you may know I just got my first snake a week ago today.... I was told he would eat soon and wasnt sure if he was too stressed and what not. So my second attempt I left the F/T mouse in the tank for 24 hours and I wiggled it in front of his nose after that and he took it!!! Attempt #2 was successful Yay. Just wanted to share how happy I am. Maybe I should go bigger than an adult mouse... He didnt even have a bulge... whats next step up? Baby rat??

Re: Yay! Khan ate :)
He threw it up... Im thinking maybe he swallowed some sand with the mouse because the mouse was a bit wet... Dunno what to do. Poor guy, im gonna go get another frozen mouse to see if i can get him to eat. If he continues to throw up I might have to go back to the carefresh, even though it looks awful.

Place the mice or whatever you feed the snake in a plate or ash tray so that the snake doesn't ingest any of the substrate.

Re: Yay! Khan ate :)
What snake is it? Most snakes dont do well on sand at all.
And we put the prey item onto a plastic plate in the viv to try to avoid ingestion of substrate.

Re: Yay! Khan ate :)
What is the diameter of Khan? Was the adult mouse 1.5-2x the diameter of the snake?? Are you sure there was no bulge? I'm just wondering because too big food items can also cause a snake to regurgitate it. My six month old ksb is still eating small fuzzies and getting a small bulge. Also, don't forget to put the food on a plate with an edge (an ashtray is also a great idea)!

Re: Yay! Khan ate :)
The mouse was about same size is the diameter of Khan... He had no buldge at all! I tried the plate with an edge and he would only take the mouse when I wiggled it above his nose as he poked out of the sand... Could I have handled him too quick? I had him out before he threw it up but this was about 12 hoursafter he ate that I had him out. I know hes hungry bc he has his nose poking out waiting for me to wiggle another.

Re: Yay! Khan ate :)
Now that he has regurged you want to leave him 14 days or so before trying to feed again, and after feed you want to leave a 48 hour rest time before handling.

Thank you Rob.. I was reading this thread over and cannot believe no one pointed that out..
Please don't attempt another feeding right after a regurgitation (throwup) always allow some time (days) before attempting to feed again.

i give all my snakes 3 days for digestion before handling
at a push 2 days minimum before handling
a snake needs at leat 48 to 72 hours to properly digest a meal
it also needs correct temperatures to aid digestion so make sure your hot end temps are perfect
if he regurges again i would get his poo tested for parasites, etc
you also want to leave him 2 weeks before his next feeding attempt in order to let his stomach get back to normal
cheers shaun
