switching rack heat source maybe...

so i have been thinking of switching my heat source from 11'' heat tape, ran backside down the right side to UTH's... i would put the UTH directly onto the shelving, so i can get out the tubs without wire issues..

i have 2 rheostats that work awesome (currently using them for my current rack and i have had all snakes happy and eating)(except my big BP, which went off feed last year at this time... )) any way so i would control the heat with them...

would there be any problems with putting the uth directly onto the wood?

Running 4" belly heat would be not only the most useful heat for your animals, but cheapest to run as well electricity-wise.

What surface is the tank resting on? allot of surfaces will warp when put in contact with heat for a long period of time, you might want to think of an alternative method for resting the UTH.

When we used a UTH for our babies tub i wrapped the wood in cooking foil first so that the heat reflected back into the tub - makes it more efficient.

The heat required to warm up a reptile can do no damage to the surrounding enclosure.

the UTH will be set directly on the wook, witch is aspen wood.

i like the cooking foil idea.

what if i woudl put some ... like laminate tile down, then the UTH, so the UTH is not on the wood??

i am just thinking of doing this, right now everything is working fine, i just wanted to change it up. and when i move to my house, i will be staining the rack and re doing a few lil things... so i just figured what the heck, might as well do this too.

this is what i would do with heat tape, but i dont want to cut the tape, re wire it and all taht, and i dont want to order like (7) 4''xwhatever peices of heat tape..

so like i said, just thinking of ideas.

Check out the Info section: Snake Rack on my website. I "weave" my tape through the shelves. One continuous piece and easy as all he** to do.

i just seen what you were talking about, and i dont think this will work with my rack...

i have my rack set up long way.. it looks to me yours is set up so the length of the tub is front to back, as mine is right to left...

so if i ran 4" heat tape along the back, that would give me a 3ft x 4" warm side ( or the back of the tub, and the front of the tub would be cool side...

its hard for me to explain, but my rack is set up opposite of yours. ill snap a few pics if you need me to.
