I will bet it's going to be mostly white, but I have seen them also turn blond and pale gray. I have 2 silver looking rats I am keeping.

Re: is this rat albino?

It depends on the genetics your breeding.
It's probably an albino or a beige as both or born pink with red eyes.
You'll know within 2 weeks : )

Re: is this rat albino?

With pet store rats, you're starting off with crap genes.
If you can, find a rat breeder in your area and buy some of their stock.
You'll thank yourself later on that you did.

why do the genes matter if they are just feeders?

Re: is this rat albino?

Here is why it matters Zak. If you have crap genes to start off with, you will ultimately get a higher ratio of defective offspring.

I have seen it here in my own colonies. Babies with tumors on their heads & other birth defects become way more common, and you just get generally unhealthy stock.

Healthy food is good food.

Although finding a quality breeder who will sell you rats to breed is no easy task...

Re: is this rat albino?

Not all petstore rats have bad genes. I have 3 and they are spitting more babies out then Ive had in long time.In fact one of the girls gave me two blues.I kept a blue hooded for my son as a pet, she is super friendly too.
It all depends on the store and were they get the rats from.
Im happy with this store because none of the rats there sneeze or wheeze either.
There are plenty of "breeders" that start out with petstore stock, they arent going to tell you that though.I hate most rat breeders. They make you fill out a @#$% form and some even require home visits..Really....Uppity people they are...

Lots of breeders are like that lol, not saying that its right, but if you want their stock, you need to jump through hoops

yea i don't know about their genes but she pumped out 12 healthy babies for her first litter. we'll see if she continues to be a great breeder.
