Garter Snake Natural Tank

Just started on building this tank for a garter snake that my friend cant take to school with him im attempting an all natural viv with lost of dirt rocks i planted some grass, some tall grass and other shrub like things im hoping it will turn out jw if anyone has ever done this

What species is it?

Anything native to Ontario is not allowed to be kept without a permit.

I did it once, looks really nice, until it's time to clean it.

Garters will poop all over everything.

Gave up on that idea years ago, standard snake bedding like bark or coconut fiber is so much easier to deal with.
