Escape to FREEDOMMMM!!!!!!
So i have had my roach colony going for about a month and every now and then found the odd escapee but not found out where they have escaped from, decided it must have been me moving bits around when cleaning out old food etc.
This morning i found twenty under a newspaper on my kitchen table! HAd been thinking about miving them to a plastic box that had more floor space rather than height anyway so had to do it straight away. During the move i found that A) they are breeding like cockraoches!! My thirty that i bought is probably close to 100 already!! and B) the cage i was using is an old exo terra cage with a mesh top, it had previsouly been cracked and repaired with silicon. The roaches were climbing the silicon to the mesh cage and then had forced their way out through the edge of the mesh!! I KNOW for certainty that the mesh was fixed when the roaches went in so they must have broken out and bent the mesh to get through!!
All safe and secure now and wont be long before there are enough for feeding to our lizards!!

Re: Escape to FREEDOMMMM!!!!!!
Thankfully, dubia will not thrive free in the house.
Get a brand new poly tub, they are cheap enough, and my roaches have never climbed out
Some people use poly trash bins, they are so tall that climbing out is impossible.

They used to "bug" me too but in time you get used to them. Out of all the roach species in the world, only 2% of them are house pests.

Re: Escape to FREEDOMMMM!!!!!!
Some trivia you may not want to know.
Shrimp, Lobster and crab are all Arthropods, the group includes insects & spiders.
So the next time you are at red lobster shelling out $50 a plate, you are eating big expensive bugs

Re: Escape to FREEDOMMMM!!!!!!
I prefer to handle the females then the males, but sometimes there are just too many male, so I try to feed them 1st.

Re: Escape to FREEDOMMMM!!!!!!
When I saw the title of this thread, I thought you had won the lottery Rob! I was excited for you.
Your roaches it seems were planning a sneak attack. Just as you and the family sat down for dinner they would have made their move and stole all of your food. Sneaky buggers. I wouldn't trust them for a minute.
If my wife were to find any roaches on our dining table,me and the roaches would be out in the cold......

Re: Escape to FREEDOMMMM!!!!!!
.. EWG WAYNE. Whyyyyy?! Why did you have to say that?! I looooove shrimp, lobster and crab and I HATE bugs D: -cries- Dx
Now I feel a little grossed out that I've been eating bug guts this whole time :c ... but they're so tasty <3 .. So, I'm with Marvel, what do roaches taste like then? 'cause if they taste anything like the three above, I'm probably gonna be chowin' on some roaches.
Cooked crickets taste like popcorn, by the way... I personally love to eat cooked mealworms, though. Crickets are a little too dry when cooked... Then again, I don't want them to be soggy and crap. Not unless their bodily juices are flavored with butter, soy sauce, or some other sauce that's tasty.

Re: Escape to FREEDOMMMM!!!!!!
I'd be willing to bet that roaches would be alright in Alfredo sauce over linguine.
Mankind had been masking the flavour of stuff forever, Chili was invented to make meats that were otherwise impossible to eat taste better. Add enough spices and fillet of rat becomes a meal that people would eat, right up until you told them what it was.
When I went to Brasil, I asked my friend Roberto not to tell me what I was eating until afterward, I didn't want to be biased before trying new things.
I cannot even pronounce some of what we ate, But if it was good enough for the family dinner, I figured I'd eat it too.
