ugh retic enki has bubbles

So noticed today bubbles and saliva on the edge of my retics mouth didn't see anything yesterday thers not a lot but enough to have me worried his humidity is currently at 65% ambeint temp around 84 hot spot is 91 cool side is at 76 nothing around his nose and his breathing sounds normal stress stress...

Ours is an SD Kayaudi (spelling?) Retic and we have the humidity up around 75%, not sure if this is a normal retic thing or because of its regional variance..........

65 is in the middle of my cycle I guess u could call it it verys between 80 to 60 when he was on news paper I had my humidifyer set to run for 15 min every hr now that I have him on eco earth running it once a day has ben enough but its dryer on his hot spot under the lights it sets around 50 even with the humidifyer running right under the lights never gets above 60 or so do u think that's a problem for it to be dry under the light like that...

Shouldn't be really, it will always be drier under the heat source and hte snake can move around.

K so I had a thought I've switched to eco earth and when I first put it in it was damp and has slowly ben drying out so I haven't ben running my humidifyer as much as I was and now its purdy much dried out now and is kinda dusty when not damp and the surface only gets slightly damp when I run the humidifyer and my hydromoter sits on the substrate im wondering if im getting an accurate reading like this

I tend to measure the air humidity about 3 inches above the substrate, i wonder if you are getting the measure of the moisture in the substrate rather than the humidity in the air?

That is what I was thinkin rob I raised one of my hygrometers up off the substrate and ther was about a 10% diff at the time it is also drying faster hope I didn't learn this the hard way haven't seen anything on his mouth yet this morning

I don't think you should have the humidity up to 80% if he/she isn't in shed. I had a retic for years (SD Kayuadi type) and I housed her on aspen or cypress mulch. I didn't give any additional humidity beyond what it reached with her water bowl in there (40-50%). When she began to cloud up, I'd mist twice a day and she was fine. Your humidity levels that you are describing are more up to what you'd keep a chondro or ETB in. I would try lowering your humidity to ambient 40-50% and see how your retic does. Too much constant humidity can lead to respiratory infections, skin sores (called scale rot) and fungal infections- NOT a good situation.

SD,S, or mainland need about the same humidity and like Kim mines is around 40-50% until its shedding time, like today i saw that isis was going into shed so i misted her down and the humidity went to 90% ill let that drop down to 60% than spray alittle before i go to bed.

even with GTP i let his humidity go down alittle and "dry out the cage"

Im confused as well rob all the caresheets I've been reading say 60-70 70-80 and was reading that low humidity can cause ri in retics but at the same time I very much value and respect willows knowledge and advice carsheets are a pain the info verys so much its hard to pick and choose the correct info I usualy try and go with what I see the most wich in this case is 60-70 I know mine peaks at 80 but that's only for 10m or so it drops fast and holds around 65 for quit some time takes an about an hr to drop to 60 I was thinking because it wasn't a long duration at 80 this would be ok but I may very well be wrong hope I can get a clear understanding before the problem compounds...

Well no bubbles or salivation today saw him yawn and everything looked ok in ther im hoping ther was another cause for his salivation and I am doing the double triple check on my husbandry

My Burm scared me pretty good a few weeks ago. I got him out to show a good friend and fellow snake lover, and he started drooling everywhere, like a mastiff dog. Trails of saliva just oozed out and I was terrified. I put the snake back and called the vet and took him in the next day. There were a few other things I wanted checked out too, but the vet said it was likely he had just had a big drink and when I picked him up the water hadn't gotten all the way to his stomach yet and the motion excited him enough for him to drool it back out. Maybe that's what your retic did?
