Re: i'm a newbie!
if you are a new snake owner a burm may or may not be the best choice. for a couple reasons. they grow to be a pretty big snake and they grow fast and usually require a custom cage. dont get me wrong a burm is a awesome snake and anyone can start with one if they have done the right research and are prepared to end up feeding rabbit sized meals and can handle the requirements of a snake and also its going to end up being a 2-3 person snake in the long run. but i wish you the best of luck. Good luck!!

Welcome! Just so you know, we are all trying to help, so don't take anything the wrong way. I suggest you read this thread about giants (i.e., reticulated pythons, burmese pythons, rock pythons, scrubs, anacondas, etc.)

Re: i'm a newbie!
Hello and welcome. To answer your question for now something 3x2x1 will do. Full grown depending on it size your looking at 8x4x4 at least. Rule of thumb is you want a cage at least haft the snakes length. So if your snake gets to only be 12 feet you'll want at least a 6 foot long cage. With a adult Burmese the bigger the cage the better. The more room you give it to move around the more exercise they can get which will help keep them from getting overly fat.
Some people like to power feed them to get them big faster. In my experience Burmese python that are power feed usually become aggressive and over weight. Then you have a fat cranky snake that you'll be to scared of to handle. Any question you have just ask. I use to own six Burmese python myself.

Re: i'm a newbie!
hello and welcome
a 6ftx3ftx3ft would be the smallest you will get away with and thats only if your burm max's out at 12ft
most get bigger so your most likely looking at an 8ft long tank minimum
cheers shaun

Re: i'm a newbie!
Hello and welcome to the forum. I absolutely LOVE burm's and im very jealous lol. I own scrub pythons and while they dont get as heavy or as long on a regular basis, they can get BIG. I have been building a custom cage for a while now and was in the process of fitting the background before flying out for work. The tank i have made for this species is 2m x 1.4m x 1.6m. This is a large cage but i think you truely have to give the giants a chance to stretch out for them to be happy and content in captivity.
If i was to build a tank for a burm i would look at something like 3m L x 2m W x 2m H. Many think burms wont climb but i have seen some enclosures around this size and boy do they love the room. Just some food for thought

Re: i'm a newbie!
i would say get a big cage right away, dont make a small one because your just going to make another one in 6 months. 8x3x3 is a good size and DONT overfeed not saying you are i just see too many people what a BIG snake so they try to feed it too much and not think how they are just killing the burm or retic. good luck and if you have anymore ?'s please ask.
