Hide box Idea
I make these hide boxes starting from a dollar store plastic basket, then I put on that plaster cast material (you can make it any shape you want), Then I mix whatever my substrate is for example: the Boa hide below is Coconut and some sand for effect.
This is mixed with podge (its like white glue and is totally toxic free and waterproof) then the mixture is applied to the basket ...
And an old one, Its like his security blanket

Very nice and natural looking. I bet they retain the top heat well too.
Can these be cleaned in any way?

Hey Mary v...yes soap and hot water, podge is waterproof, however you will loose a bit of the substrate ithe inside will be fine

Good idea!! And very cheap to make!!!!..
Edwin: you can get Podge from White Rose or if you dont have one of those near by, you can always try Wal-Mart in the crafts section..

great idea .. loooks awesome and natural.
Cleaning inside seems easy but the outside does not ..
If the urate gets on top of that I see not other way then rubbing it off wich would need toremove the substrate glue on.. I guess u gotta hope he does not go on his hide .

Would look totally awesome in a cage with a background like the ones in this how-to article......
Rock Background I just finished a smaller version of the b/g described in the article in a 15 gal tank for a Children's Python.
