thermostat issues

hey im having problems with my set up, i cant get the thermostat to stay at a constant temp. in a 2'x2'x2' wooden viv. (for my new 1yr old female brb, still working on a name..... yes, yes pictures comeing soon lol) where should the thermo sensor be placed in relation to the bulb, which is in the back left corner? please help

My thermostat sensors are all on top of the substrate directly under the bulb. what bulbs/stats are you using?

i put all my stat probes dead centre of the back of the tank

it gives me good a good gradient of ambient air temps

hot end 90f

middle of tank 84f to 86f

cool end 76f to 80f

what type of bulb are you using ?

what wattage is it ?

infra red exoterra bub and dimming thermostat... its ok ive sorted it now lol

Glad to hear, oit of curiosity what was the problem? Never know someone else might stumble on this thread having the same issue.

basically i was letting the tip of the sensor get covered over a little bit so the thermostat was running too high. silly mistakes lol

I check mine daily - i find most of my guys (especially my SD retic) will shove the substrate about and bury the sensor on a regular basis.

I had problems with my heating for my hedgehog (no its not a reptile...), I fixed that with an electronic controler, just like the ones we have for our electric baseboards to keep the house warm in winter!!

I also have a closed wooden living quarter, so I put the heating bulb (ceramic heating unit 100W) on the left side and put the controler on the right side, at the same height as the bulb. since hot hair make a convection pattern in my enclosure, I have to set it 1 celcius lower than what I want to get at the hottest part of my vivarium.

I found that using the same parts we use for our comfort is the best way to keep our pets at the right temperature
