Got a carpet today! :)

Excited so I thought I would share! We picked up our (supposed to be Irian Jaya) baby carpet python today! Since I don't know much about carpets I'm not 100% sure the visual difference between the different carpets but from what I've seen I think it is an Irian Jaya. She's a bit nippy, but we expected that and she's smaller/younger than we thought she was going to be (and the fact that it's a she) but that's okay. Will have pictures up either later tonight or tomorrow!

If anyone has any tips or insight they'd like to share about carpets - please do

Re: Got a carpet today! :)

Congrats! As mentioned, we can't wait to see her!

I'm a fairly new, but proud carpet owner, so I would rather the carpet-gurus answer your question about advice and care....hint hint shaunyboy, marvelfreak, and Freebody

My only bit of advice; work with her! Figure out a schedule and make sure you handle her so that she will tolerate you holding her. I've been working with my little girl for about a month and she has changed drastically. She went from numerous bites per handling down to zero! I feed Friday's, leave alone Sat/Sun, and handle Mon, Tue, and Wed or Thurs (at least 3 times per week).

Have fun!

Re: Got a carpet today! :)

Thanks I definitely plan on handling her regularly. I got a few pictures of her in her temp cage (keep them on paper towels and nothing fancy for the first week or two we have them to check for mites). But as soon as she went in the cage she started exploring - sat on top of her house for a while and then got on the branch-thing that I bought for her. The pictures aren't great since it's through her temp cage but I'll get more up when I get her out.

Beautiful little girl!

The pics are fine in my opinion, but if you don't think so, you'll have to post some more!

Thanks! They turned out better than I thought they would since they were taken through glass. But... I will definitely post some more when I get her out

Re: Got a carpet today! :)

Congrats on your new snake, i am sure in a small amount of time your carpet will become less nippy, its all brand new, different enviroment, different smells, but judging by your enthusiasm and the set up, that carpets in good hands( even if those hands bleed the odd time) I wish you well

Re: Got a carpet today! :)

Thanks everyone I'm not too worried about her always being nippy since so many people (on here and people here) have assured me that she will calm down - thanks for that reassurance.

Re: Got a carpet today! :)

Thanks - her dorsal stripe is awesome, it goes down her entire body, has a small break about 6 in from tip of tail then goes for a few more inches. I got her out for a bit tonight (boyfriend did get bit when getting her out of her cage, but that was the only bite tonight) so I did take some more pictures so here they are....

Very nice little one you've got there. Welcome to the Morelia club...but be warned: carpets are very addictive. You can almost never have just one, lol.
