Re: milksnake escaped.

How big is the milk snake?? it will help to figure out potential hiding spots.

look in every nook, cranny, dark spot you can think of.

Under furniture, appliances, laundry piles, under beds, inside furniture, under cushions, etc..

Re: milksnake escaped.

Murphy's law mandates that your milk snake has found the most difficult spot to get it back

Some people have had success with leaving a dead mouse out for the snake to find.

Re: milksnake escaped.

Okay this is what you need. Go to your nearest hardware store and buy 2 glue traps made for mice. after that go to a petshop and ask them for some of their used mouse/rat bedding. Get a box roughly the size of a pizza box that has an opening top place the soon t be trap in a likely snake spot and make sure it is against a wall. Cut a hole on either side of the box large enough for your snake to easily crawl into.
place both traps in there close to the center. Make sure you tape them down. Now sprinkle the used rodent bedding a little bit outside of the box @ either(both of them) opening, as to make a small trail leading into the box. After that sprinkle the rest in the box paying careful attention to not get too much on your glue traps.
After you catch him you will need to spray him with Pam until the glue unsticks.
Then you can let him soak for a bit in warm water if you choose to.

This always works when I get a call that there is a snake on someones property when I get there it is gone. I have never harmed a snake doing this. If you don't believe me look these traps up.
They are simple, easy, cheap and harmless

Re: milksnake escaped.

Only problem with that concept is that snakes have hurt themselves struggling with the glue traps.

look at how this trap is pulling the skin under the snake...

The humane society had to put the snake down, the belly damage was too severe to correct.

This method is stressful to the snake, many times they can peel off their own skin trying to escape..

Not the best advice in my opinion.

I do understand what you're saying but I doubt that he Is going to use glue paper for one and for two I am sure he will be checking the trap periodically rather than let it sit for a day or 2. Another thing is the fact that the glue traps are made of cardboard not paper I have caught up to3 foot WDBs, coachwhips, garters, milksnakes, and bullsnakes like this and it went off without a hitch.
His choices are to look for it which is nearly impossible to find in a cluttered place and people constantly moving this stuff. The cold weather can be potentially deadly. I would rather stress the animal out a bit and ensure that it was back in its cage safely than take the chance that it could die out of its enclosure or even worse get out of the house.
Here is a good example

Its fine Rob, we talk about the mite spray so much here that it was an easy mistake.
