Re: i joined because i love my snakes
Here's some advice!
First things first. If he's been mistreated, get him to a qualified reptile vet. Poor husbandry breeds disease, and you don't want to transfer mites, RI, or worse to the rest of your brood.
Second. Quarantine the new arrival in a nice, quiet, dark, warm room, or closet. This will serve two purposes. First, it will help to prevent the spread of any disease the vet might miss, and second, it will provide the snake with a more comforting surrounding. Snakes are secretive creatures, they like it dark and quiet. Once he's quarantined, don't bother him for a couple of weeks except for maintenance, don't even try to feed him. Even for snakes that haven't been mistreated, moving is very stressful. The only exception I would make to this is if the snake is malnourished. I rescued two malnourished bps who ate almost immediately for me, with no hesitation (one struck the prey before it hit the ground). However, if the malnourishment is extreme, he may need force fed or tube fed. This is best left to your herp vet. Either way, use your best judgment, and when in doubt, take it to the vet.

Re: i joined because i love my snakes
Quarantine takes 12 months and realistically how many people can honestly say they have done this for all their animals. Also you still breed disease even if its in another room in your house, its hard to see anyone stopping the spread of mites by just quarantining. Im not having a go at Nafun so please dont take it that way, but i believe most peoples quarantine standards are far below where they should be to prevent any spread of disease ( myself included ).

Re: i joined because i love my snakes
welcome to you you too pythonman!! nafun, thanks for your advice but ive already had this snake in my house for well over a couple of weeks now.. in the same room as my other 3 snakes. they all have seperate vivs.. i have been as careful as i can be and im very hygenic with it all. if i hold one of my snakes, i always wash my hands before handeling the next one. and she has no mites or disease, so im lucky really.

very true mate
i try quarintine mines for 3 to 6 months depending on where i bought them
i only buy from a few trusted breeders
i only go near my quarintine room on days i wont be working with the rest of my collection
that way ive had a couple of showers and a nights sleep before i go near my collection
all we can do is the best our personal situations allow (i know thats not ideal)
ive seen me have snakes in all my kids bedrooms and the living room
some ill,some in quarintine
as long as we do our best then damage should be minimal
cheers shaun
